Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- With so many weapons, the Sacramento Kings had no problem resting Chris Webber against the Orlando Magic. Peja Stojakovic collected 28 points and 10 rebounds and fellow All-Star Brad Miller added 22 and 13 as the Kings pulled away in the second half for a 107-90 victory over the lowly Magic. Mike Bibby scored 26 points and Doug Christie chipped in 13 and a season-high 12 assists for the Kings, who played Saturday night in Miami and gave Webber the night off to rest his surgically repaired left knee. "I felt (that) this early in him coming back, combined with it being back-to-back games, I thought it made sense," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "Now he has two days till we play again (vs. Golden State on Tuesday)." "We have been playing without Webb for 50-something games this season," Miller said. "I know what I have to do out there and that is how we look at it." The Kings trailed by as many as 10 points late in the second quarter but pulled within 54-53 at the break. Sacramento scored the first 12 points of the second half, taking a 65-54 lead with 9:40 remaining on a jumper by Stojakovic, who had eight points during the burst. "We did not do the things necessary to come into the locker room with an extended lead like that," Magic coach Johnny Davis said. "They closed the game to one and now it's a different ballgame. They have the momentum. We come out in the third quarter, we didn't play particularly well and they just got away from us and we couldn't respond." Sacramento limited Orlando to 39 percent shooting (35-of-89) and led by as many as 21 points in the final minutes. "We picked up our energy at the end of the second quarter," Stojakovic said. "We carried it all the way to the end. We were more aggressive defensively." Juwan Howard scored a season-high 26 points to pace Orlando. All-Star Tracy McGrady, who was guarding by the hawking Christie, added just 13 - two after the break - on 4-of-15 shooting. "You never shut a guy like that down because of what you did - usually it's a combination of things," Adelman said. "But Doug made him work and our guys were intent on making sure he helped on him." "I really didn't have that feeling tonight like I was going to have an outstanding game," McGrady said. "And also, they was doing a great job of loading up every time that I got the ball. Vlade was walking over there, just making me give it up. All night I was really playing out of my comfort zone." The Magic were without forward Drew Gooden, who had an infection on his right leg. "It's day-to-day with Drew," Davis said. "Certainly we missed him tonight and hopefully he'll be ready against Miami (on Tuesday)."
