Game StoryEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The New Jersey Nets got two scares - one from Kenyon Martin and one from the Chicago Bulls. Richard Jefferson scored 27 points and Jason Kidd had his ninth triple-double of the season for the Nets, who lost Martin to ankle injury and squandered a huge lead before holding on for an 88-76 victory over the Bulls. New Jersey led by as many as 20 points in the first quarter but slowly fell apart after Martin, its All-Star power forward, left the game with a sprained left ankle late in the second quarter. "Its hard to diagnose," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "Without talking to him, or the training staff, and without an MRI, I would have no clue as to how he is. You worry first about his health, just hoping it's not serious and then at the same time, as a team, go out and play a second half to win." The Nets had a 46-32 cushion just two minutes into the second half before Chicago stormed back with a 24-9 run. Jamal Crawford scored 13 of his 25 points during the stretch and Linton Johnson buried a 3-pointer with two minutes left to give the Bulls their first lead at 56-55. "It was only a 10-point lead at the half and they hit some good shots," Jefferson said. "A 10-point lead in this league can go extremely quick. Jamal Crawford caught fire." New Jersey got a much-needed contribution from Brian Scalabrine, who buried a jumper with 46 seconds left and opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer. Kidd followed with a jumper and, after a basket by Crawford, Kerry Kittles and Jefferson made consecutive baskets for a 69-60 cushion with 8:47 remaining. "They had momentum on their side and we changed the tide," Frank said. "It showed a lot from our team, especially with Kenyon being hurt, coming out without him in the second half and them taking the lead, but we fought harder." The Nets never relinquished control, making 12-of-20 shots in the fourth quarter as they cruised to their 18th victory in 22 games. Kidd collected 13 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his 59th career triple-double, tying Larry Bird for fourth place on the all-time list. "It's a great honor. I look at those four guys who are up there, it's quite and honor. Those guys aren't too shabby," said Kidd, who trails only Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson and Wilt Chamberlain. Rookie Kirk Hinrich added 12 points and nine assists for the struggling Bulls, who shot just 37 percent (38-of-81) en route to their fifth straight loss. "We came out to a rough start," Bulls forward Tyson Chandler said. "They jumped out on us, but we fought back. We made some mistakes down the stretch. It was a tough one to lose. We just didn't come out to play."
