Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Jason Richardson and the Golden State Warriors manhandled the injury-riddled Los Angeles Clippers. Richardson scored 28 points and the Warriors matched a season with their fourth straight win, a 96-85 victory over the Clippers. Los Angeles, which has lost 11 of its last 13 games, played without leading scorer Corey Maggette and Quentin Richardson. Maggette has soreness in his left knee and Richardson missed his second straight contest due to back spasms. "We really can't have any sympathy for them not having players," Warriors center Erick Dampier said. "We just came in, we did what we needed to do and took care of business." The Warriors never trailed, held the Clippers to 20 percent (3-of-15) shooting in the first quarter and raced to a 27-14 lead behind 13 points from Richardson. "I was feeling pretty good in the first quarter," Richardson said. "I hit some good shots and that got me going the rest of the game." Golden State's lead reached 22 points and Los Angeles never got closer than nine the rest of the way. "We continue to improve defensively," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said. "They are a team that scores a lot of points in transition, and today we played solid transition defense." The Clippers ended up shooting 39 percent (30-of-78) and scored just five fast-break points. Dampier collected 16 points and 17 rebounds and Cliff Robinson added 18 for the Warriors, who had not won four in a row since November 21-29. Elton Brand led Los Angeles with 20 points and 10 rebounds. "We needed to step up and bring energy," Brand said. "When you have guys out with injuries, getting off to a good start is important. We had a poor start, and that made it tough."
