Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- Stephen Jackson stopped a late run with one of his own. Jackson collected 27 points and 10 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Chicago Bulls, 97-88, for just their second winning streak of the season. The emotional Jackson was having a poor shooting night, connecting on just 5-of-19 shots through three quarters. But after picking up a technical foul for arguing with the referees with 3:27 remaining, he scored the next seven points to put away the game. "It tends to get him focused a little bit," Hawks guard Jason Terry said. "That's the type of guy he is. He's our emotional leader. He definitely did it tonight when we needed it." After Chicago scored eight straight points to pull within 82-79 on a 3-pointer by rookie Kirk Hinrich with 3:11 remaining, Jackson countered with a shot from the arc, two free throws, and a 22-foot jumper to open an 89-79 cushion with 1:36 left. The Bulls got no closer than six points thereafter. "Those two big (shots) he hit, the first one was wide open and the second one was a little contested," Hawks coach Terry Stotts said. "Those were heartbreakers as far as Chicago was concerned." "We just relaxed too much the last four or five minutes," Jackson said. "We have to learn to play hard the whole game." Terry added 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Hawks (24-49), whose only other winning streak this season was back-to-back victories on February 4 and 6. "We won two in a row," Stotts said. "The first time it took us 40-something games to win two in a row. They all feel good." "Once you get Jason and Stephen going, those guys are hard to stop," said Bulls forward Marcus Fizer, whose 15 points led six Chicago players in double figures. "We tried to do the best we can helping on the pick-and-rolls, closing down as other guys drove. But (Hawks forwards) Boris Diaw and Chris (Crawford) did good jobs at finding open guys, and they were knocking shots down." Both teams started slowly. The Hawks missed their first 10 shots, but the Bulls could only muster a 7-2 lead. "I didn't get discouraged when we had the slow start," said Crawford, who had Atlanta's first basket at the 6:48 mark. "All we needed was to hit a couple of shots and things would get rolling." "They took a while to heat up," said Bulls guard Jannero Pargo, who had 14 points off the bench one day after a career-high 34 in a loss to Milwaukee. "But once they started knocking down shots, it seemed like the basket got wider and wider for them." Bulls second-year forward Tyson Chandler left with 6:48 remaining in the second quarter after he was knocked hard to the ground by a flagrant foul from Hawks reserve Michael Bradley. He did not return. "My back is pretty stiff and sore right now," said Chandler. "I'll probably know a little bit more tomorrow."
