Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Latrell Sprewell, Kevin Garnett and Minnesota Timberwolves had much greater success at the Staples Center the second go-around this weekend. One night after getting waxed by the Los Angeles Lakers, the Timberwolves received 18 points from Sprewell and 17 and 15 rebounds from Garnett en route to a 98-82 triumph over the reeling Los Angeles Clippers. The Timberwolves, who avoided their first three-game losing streak this season, shot just 31 percent against the Lakers but connected on 46 percent (39-of-85) in this one, dealing the Clippers their seventh straight loss. "Tonight we shared the ball and had energy," Garnett said. "I haven't even looked at the stat sheet to see how many assists we had, but I know used our whole playbook." The Timberwolves were credited with 24 assists in the game, with Garnett leading the way with five. "I knew I had to be more aggressive and vocal," Garnett added. "I didn't play well last night (making just 6-of-18 shots) and I wanted to come out tonight and get everyone involved. That's what I do best." Sam Cassell added 15 points for Minnesota, which has won seven in a row over the Clippers, including all four meetings this season. "We functioned well at times," Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said. "It was a good win for us after our last two games." Elton Brand paced the Clippers with 22 points while rookie Chris Kaman added a season-high 19 and 12 rebounds. Corey Maggette tallied 17 points before being ejected by referee Ed Malloy with 2:01 left in the third quarter for arguing a non-call on a drive to the basket. Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy also was tossed after receiving his second technical for going on the floor to protest Maggette's ejection to referee Dan Crawford. Three technical foul shots by Fred Hoiberg capped a 10-1 spurt that gave Minnesota a 76-59 lead. "We turned the ball over too much," Dunleavy said. "They had 26 points off of turnovers, plus they were able to get into the open court and score easily. We didn't get a lot of our second-chance points and they had three-point play opportunities that hurt us." Cassell made back-to-back jumpers to ignite a 15-2 run and give Minnesota a 19-7 lead with 3:52 left in the first quarter. Brand's driving layup with 3:45 to play capped a 6-0 run in the second quarter that pulled the Clippers within 41-35. But Sprewell countered with three consecutive 3-pointers to regain the momentum and open a 50-37 lead with 2:11 left. "They made a little run," said Sprewell, who had 14 points in the half. "I was able to get free and had the opportunity to knock down some open shots. And they went for me."
