Game StoryDENVER (Ticker) -- To make the playoffs, the Denver Nuggets need to beat teams ahead of them in the standings. They will have plenty of chances in the final week of the season. Marcus Camby had 20 points and 12 rebounds and rookie Carmelo Anthony also scored 20 points as the Nuggets gained ground in the playoff race with a 110-100 victory over the Houston Rockets. Denver (40-37) moved into a virtual tie with Portland for the final Western Conference playoff spot after beating Houston (42-33), which is in seventh place. "This playoff race is going to change daily," Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "Hopefully, we will keep winning and the changes will be in our favor." After facing last-place Phoenix on Wednesday, the Nuggets visit Houston and host Portland. They end the season against a pair of playoff-bound powerhouses in San Antonio and Sacramento. Andre Miller and Nene scored 14 points apiece and Jon Barry added 10 and a season-high 10 assists for Denver, which never trailed after the first quarter and led by as many as 18 points. The Nuggets had a 57-52 halftime lead and pulled away by scoring the first 10 points of the third quarter. Miller had two points and two assists during the spurt, feeding Camby for a dunk that gave Denver a 67-52 cushion with 9:22 left. "At the start of the third quarter, it took them a whole to score," Barry said. "We sustained some stops while we were scoring, and that gave us a cushion. It was a great win from start to finish." Houston pulled within seven three times in the fourth quarter but hurt itself from the free-throw line, where it was just 14-of-24, including 5-of-9 in the final 9 1/2 minutes. "We played awful from start to finish," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "We were not as strong as we needed to be. We didn't put enough into it to get anything out of it." Yao Ming had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Cuttino Mobley added 17 points for the Rockets, who are three games ahead of Portland and Denver. "We are very close to the playoffs and we seem to be treating it like we are already in," Yao said. "We didn't do the things we were supposed to do."
