Game StoryBOSTON (Ticker) -- All-Star Paul Pierce dominated the second half as the Boston Celtics continued their push toward the NBA playoffs. Pierce scored 24 of his 32 points in the final two quarters and made 16 of a career-high 23 free throws as the Celtics held off the Golden State Warriors, 111-106. After scoring just eight points in the first half, Pierce erupted for 11 in the third quarter before adding 13 in the final l2 minutes. He went 8-for-16 from the field. "I'm starting to really feel good this time of year," said Pierce. "I'm at my best when I can take it to the basket and finish strong and if my (jumper) is working, then I'm really hard to stop." Boston (35-41) tied New York for seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. "Every game is a must win for us," said Pierce. "We had a big lead and we could have easily put them away but they fought back and we kept our composure for the most part and that's what excited me. We made the plays down the stretch to get it done." Golden State cut an 18-point deficit to one late in the third quarter and tied it, 106-106, on Jason Richardson's sixth 3-pointer of the game with 54.3 seconds remaining. Richardson scored 25 points. Pierce answered with an 18-footer 10 seconds later, giving Boston the lead for good. "It was a design for me to fake like I was going to the post, cause they were worrying about me going to the post all night, and come off at the top for an isolation," Pierce said. "I just caught them with a good screen and got the shot." Brian Cardinal, who had four 3-pointers among his 23 points, missed a shot from the arc. Richardswon rebounded but missed a jumper that Pierce rebounded. He made a pair of free throws to seal Boston's fourth win in five games. "I thought we had some good looks. The ball just didn't fall," said Richardson, who also had 11 rebounds. Ricky Davis scored 15 points and fellow reserve Marcus Banks had 13 points, seven steals and five assists.
