Game StoryPHOENIX (Ticker) -- Teenage rookie Carmelo Anthony continues to show uncanny poise even as the pressure mounts and the standings tighten. Anthony scored 36 points on 12-of-20 shooting as the Denver Nuggets swept the season series with the Phoenix Suns for the first time with a 111-96 victory. "We just wanted the win," Anthony said. "We knew we needed this game really bad. We matched their intensity, kept our composure and won the game." The season will come down to the final four games for the Nuggets (41-37), who pulled into a three-way tie with Portland and Utah for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. "Obviously, a clutch win for our basketball team," Denver coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "We did a great job tonight. It kind of unraveled for us there in the third quarter; fortunately we were able to get it back." Denver pulled away in the second quarter, using a 26-11 run to take a 50-29 with 2:13 left. The Suns used an 11-1 run to enter the final period trailing just 76-70. Anthony responded by scoring 13 of the Nuggets' 35 points in the fourth quarter. "Down the stretch, when they started making their run, that's just me," Anthony said. "I want the ball at the end and my teammates got it to me and I made shots." Anthony has scored 20 or more points in 14 of his last 15 games. "Carmelo Anthony is a gamer," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said. "In the end, he's the answer. I give him credit." Joe Johnson scored 22 points for the Suns, who have lost three straight games and five of seven. Johnson played 47 minutes to extend his streak of games with 40-plus minutes to 31. That streak is the longest since Boston's John Havlicek recorded 31 straight from January 23-March 19, 1971. "Even though we are losing, I am just out here to have fun and improve my game," Johnson said. Amare Stoudemire scored 19 points but committed eight of Phoenix's 23 turnovers. Forward Shawn Marion did not dress due to bronchitis. "It was tough tonight, we were shorthanded with players," Stoudemire said. "We turned the ball over and gave them a lot of easy baskets."
