Game StoryTORONTO (Ticker) -- Jermaine O'Neal's sore left knee passed the test of back-to-back nights. The Toronto Raptors failed in their bid to stay alive in the playoff race. Listed as questionable, O'Neal scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Pacers to a 94-90 victory over the Raptors. Indiana (58-21) tied an NBA franchise record with its 58th win and moved three games ahead of Sacramento (54-23) in the race for the league's best record. The Pacers went 58-24 in 1997-98, the last time they swept the Raptors. "It's an important mark for us and we were able to do it because we played so well on the road (26-14)," said Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. "We felt if we could be a good road team it would be a good sign for us heading into the playoffs and we hope it is." O'Neal had 20 points and nine rebounds in Indiana's 107-86 win over New York on Tuesday and was leaning toward resting a sore knee that sidelined him for two games last week. But the All-Star forward decided to play after participating in warmups and dominated in the first half, scoring 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting as the Pacers built a 53-37 advantage. "I felt a little better by game time and was able to play and hit some shots," said O'Neal of his 43rd double-double of the season. "I feel good that my teammates were able to get me the ball." Indiana increased its lead to 18 points in the second half before a 20-5 run helped Toronto pull within 77-74 with 8:29 left. Donyell Marshall hit three of his six 3-pointers in the spurt. The Pacers responded with a 10-4 run as O'Neal ignited it with a pair of free throws and Jeff Foster capped it with a follow shot, increasing the lead to 87-78 with 2:03 left. The Raptors closed to 89-86 on another 3-pointer by Marshall, who scored 26 points. But Ron Artest converted three free throws and Reggie Miller added a pair in the final 15 seconds to seal the win. "We're just trying to get good momentum going heading into the playoffs," said Artest, who scored 19 points. "We definitely need to turn it up in the next couple of games to keep our leads." The loss was the eighth in nine games for Toronto, which was officially eliminated from the playoff race. "Those are the kind of words that make your heart drop," said Raptors swingman Jalen Rose, who finished with 17 points. "One of the things you shoot for is making the playoffs and when that doesn't happen, it's a huge disappointment. It's a feeling I don't like." Toronto's Vince Carter had 15 points, but made just 6-of-19 shots.
