Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Stephen Jackson did a lot of scoring and Bob Sura did a bit of everything for the Atlanta Hawks. Jackson scored 36 points and Sura collected 12 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for his first career triple-double as the Hawks defeated the Chicago Bulls, 116-101. Jason Terry chipped in 23 points and 11 assists and Chris Crawford added 20 points for the Hawks, who jumped out to a 37-24 lead after one quarter and led by at least nine points thereafter. "JT and Bobby were penetrating," said Jackson, who shot 13-of-27 from the field. "Guys got to help and hit open shots. I'm just trying to knock them down. I'm just trying to be a factor." "We were a step slow right from the beginning. Two or three steps, really," said Bulls coach Scott Skiles, whose team lost for the eighth time in 10 games. "There were some signs early on that we were breaking down all over the place. We did not play very hard, did not play very well." Chicago gave up a season-high 29 fast-break points to Atlanta, which also tied a Bulls opponent season high with 35 assists. "It is not for me, 10 minutes after the game, to stand up here and ridicule anybody," Skiles said. "I do not think that is appropriate. The few times that I said something that I thought was true and then look on the tape, it has not been true. "I just know that tonight we did not play anywhere near the level that we need to play to win a professional basketball game." Atlanta is just 26-53 but is finishing the season relatively strong, having won four of its last eight games with a talent-deprived roster. "I know a lot of people think this game didn't mean anything, but it meant something to our guys," Hawks coach Terry Stotts said. "We didn't want to have the worst record in Hawks franchise history (25-57 in 2000-01). I think we played with a lot of pride." En route to his milestone, Sura made 5-of-7 shots for the Hawks, who shot 49 percent (44-of-89). "I've been close a bunch of times this year and a lot of times in my career," said Sura, who began the season with playoff-bound Detroit. "So I feel really good to get one." "I'm happy for him," Stotts said. "Bob has been playing terrific for us. I'm happy for the guys who have been able to take advantage of a tough situation. Hopefully it will help their careers a little. Bob, Jack and Jason are out there helping themselves and hopefully helping their careers." Rookie Kirk Hinrich scored a season-high 29 points and added nine assists for the Bulls, who lost the season series, 3-1. "Kirk has been the player who has stood out since I have been coach," said Skiles, who replaced Bill Cartwright one month into the season. "He plays hard every day in practice, every game. ... Kirk is very coachable. He has gotten better all year. "(But) I am looking at the team as a whole. It is hard to be very encouraged after an effort like tonight."
