Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Marko Jaric led a third-quarter charge that put the Los Angeles Clippers where they haven't been in nearly 10 years. In a terrific all-around game, Jaric scored nine of his season-high 23 points in the third period as the Clippers posted a 101-89 triumph over the slumping Toronto Raptors. Los Angeles improved to 5-3 for the first time since the 1995-96 season. After scoring 19 points and leading a 97-96 comeback win at Chicago on Saturday, Jaric took control of the offense in the third quarter as the Clippers outscored the Raptors, 29-12. "Well in the past two games Marko has been playing well and shooting the ball well," said Corey Maggette, who scored 22 points. "It is great for our team. His confidence level is up and we really needed that from our point guard." "I think in the beginning we really had (Clippers' offense) under control," Toronto forward Vince Carter said. "Yeah they were pushing it but we were able to really maintain the fast break but in the second half they were starting to get easy baskets, but first and foremost our turnovers." As he did against Chicago, Jaric dished out a season-best eight assists while grabbing seven rebounds. Elton Brand added 19 for the Clippers. "This team has a lot of talented players," Jaric said. "We had to play together. Since they (Toronto) are playing very well to start the season." The Raptors was a dreadful 5-of-21 in the third period and shot 42 percent (36-of-85) overall. Carter scored 21 points but just six after the first quarter. "I want to say the end of the first half, that's when the game got out of hand right there," Carter said. Rafer Alston and Rose were held scoreless in the second half after combining to score 21 in the first 24 minutes. The Raptors shooting woes were exemplified by their 4-of-17 ratio on 3-point attempts. "We were in the game first half," Toronto head coach Sam Mitchell said. "Third quarter we just couldn't score anything. We looked like we were getting some decent looks, but we just couldn't make any shots." After a 4-1 start, Toronto has lost its last three and is 1-4 on its six-game western road swing, which concludes Wednesday in Denver. "It's hard to win on the road in this league," Rose said. "You want to at least in the worst case scenario go .500 on the road and win the majority of games at home. We just haven't been getting it done in these last few games. Any time you're on a long road trip it does and it can take a toll."
