Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Mike Bibby and Peja Stojakovic lifted the Sacramento Kings back to .500 for the first time this season. Bibby and Stojakovic combined for 18 points during a decisive third-quarter run as the Kings won their third straight game, a 113-106 victory over the winless Chicago Bulls. Eric Piatkowski scored 13 points in the first two quarters to help the Bulls to a 53-52 halftime lead before Bibby and Stojakovic took over. "We just buckled down, got some stops and rebounded and got out running, got easy baskets," said Bibby, who tied his career high with six 3-pointers tonight. Stojakovic started the run with a jumper just 14 seconds into the third quarter and Tyson Chandler answered with a dunk before Bibby's 3-pointer gave a 57-55 lead to Sacramento, which seemed to put the game on cruise control at that point, never letting Chicago threaten the lead. "We played hard, we just didn't play smart, we came unglued," Chicago coach Scott Skiles said. Bibby scored seven of his 27 points, including two of his six 3-pointers, and Stojakovic added 11 of his 29 during the 30-10 surge in the third quarter for the Kings, who shot 42 percent (11-of-26) from the arc. During Sacramento's winning streak, Bibby and Stojakovic are averaging a combined 47 points per game. Bobby Jackson, who scored 20 points off the bench, capped the rally with a pair of free throws with 70 seconds remaining in the period, giving Sacramento an 82-63 edge. Chris Webber scored eight of his 19 points in the decisive run and grabbed 13 rebounds and Brad Miller chipped in with eight and 10 for the Kings, who have won 11 consecutive games against Chicago, including six straight at Arco Arena. Chicago's young and athletic team outrebounded the Kings, 52-40, including 20 of them on the offensive end, causing Kings coach Rick Adelman to question his teams rebounding effort: "We told them before the game that they needed to put a body on them to move them out of the way, these guys are to athletic and to long. That's what really kept them in the game." Bulls rookie Luol Deng scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half and swept nine boards. Piatkowski made 7-of-11 shots and scored a season-high 24 points for Chicago, which committed 18 turnovers that led to 23 points for Sacramento. Chicago played the first half of the game with energy and precision, but inconsistency proved costly in the second half of play. "When we play bad man, we play bad, we go south real fast. We can't hit a shot. We can't stop nobody" said Bulls center Eddy Curry, who had 12 points at the half and a lack-luster second half, finishing the game with 14. Chicago fell to 0-5 to start the season, matching the worst start since the 1999-00 campaign.
