Game Story

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Amare Stoudemire continues to overpower anyone in his way. Stoudemire had 33 points, 14 rebounds and the go-ahead three-point play in the final minute as the Phoenix Suns overcame a triple-double by Kobe Bryant and edged the Los Angeles Lakers, 107-102. Second in the NBA in scoring at better than 27.6 points per game, Stoudemire eclipsed 30 points for the third straight contest. He made 14-of-25 shots as he muscled his way past just about every defender. "I am still working on my game," Stoudemire said. "The best is yet to come." "Amare was just dominating," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He is going to spoil me." The Suns still trailed, 99-98, after two free throws by Lakers forward Caron Butler with 1:02 to play. At the other end, the 6-10 Stoudemire overwhelmed the 6-7 Butler for a basket while drawing a foul. The three-point play gave Phoenix the lead for good. "If the team needs me to do certain things out there, I am going to get the job done," said Stoudemire, who became the first Suns frontcourt player since Charles Barkley in 1996 to score 30 points in three straight games. "I am bringing my lunch box and hard hat and go to work every day." Bryant, who missed his first 11 shots, missed a 3-pointer, leading to Casey Jacobsen's free throw. Bryant missed another jumper before Shawn Marion's three-point play sealed it with 21 seconds remaining. Marion had a season-high 27 points and 15 rebounds and Steve Nash added 18 and 16 assists for Phoenix, which erased a 17-point deficit and nearly blew a 10-point lead. "We have a lot of weapons," Marion said. "We knew they would make a run, but at the same time we kept going hard. It was a matter of everybody picking each other up." Bryant, who leads the league in scoring, had 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists but made just 10-of-33 shots. The Lakers fell to 0-5 when allowing 100 or more points. "I just have no comment," Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "I'd be just wasting my time." Despite Bryant's struggles - he was 0-of-10 in the first half - the Lakers opened a 32-15 lead early in the second quarter. But the Suns surged behind Stoudemire within 47-46 at halftime. "(Stoudemire) really took us out of the funk in the second quarter," D'Antoni said. "You need someone to break the spell and we just rode his back and took off." "In the first half, I had good looks, I just missed them," Bryant said. "I'm not the type to get discouraged. I always believe the next one will go in." Bryant got hot in the second half, but the Suns kept pace. Butler and Brian Cook made 3-pointers around a jumper by Nash, giving LA a 97-96 lead with 1:37 remaining. Marion made a layup and Butler, who scored 21 points, sank two free throws before Stoudemire's big play. "We are a team that is never going to back down," Stoudemire said. "It doesn't matter if Kobe hits six or seven shots in a row, we are going to keep our composure and play our game."
