Game Story

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Austin Croshere scored 11 of his 25 points in the decisive third quarter as the Indiana Pacers held off the Minnesota Timberwolves 106-102. Leading, 47-45, at the break, Indiana outscored Minnesota 30-22 in the third quarter to take a 77-67 lead into the fourth quarter. Croshere hit all three of his 3-pointers in the quarter as the Pacers hit 6-of-10 from the arc in the period. "Our shooting is coming from everywhere," Croshere said. "We punch it inside or we force them to guard us on the perimeter. It makes it hard to key on any one or two players, and we have a lot of good offensive players. I thought we played with a lot of heart and it was a great win for us." Jamaal Tinsley added 20 points and 14 assists for Indiana, which had five players score in double-figures. Fred Jones scored 17 and James Jones and Scot Pollard chipped in with 13 apiece for the Pacers, who improved to 13-2 all-time against the Timberwolves at home. "On a night like tonight, when you look like you're out-matched on paper, you can't undersell guys coming together and playing together in front of great fans," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "Everyone who played, played well. Scot Pollard has given us a spiritual lift on the floor and in the locker room. Jamaal Tinsley is doing things right now that very few point guards in this league can do. These efforts have been great." "I went out there tonight and tried to put pressure on them at all times," Tinsley said. "This is a tough situation that we're in. I have more opportunities to not only get myself good shots, but my teammates too. I was just trying to push it up the court, get it in the paint, and get a good shot or dish it." Kevin Garnett scored 23 points, but hit just 11-of-18 free throws. Troy Hudson added 19 off the bench and Wally Szczerbiak scored 18. "We just keep getting other teams' best game," Garnett said. "Seattle played unbelievable. Indiana played unbelievable. The crowd was into it. It's not our offense. We have to buckle down and pick it up on defense. Things are only going to get tougher." "Indiana came out and played a (heck) of a game. We looked like we were waiting to turn it on, and you can't do that. You can't just flip a switch," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "Our body language was terrible. It looked like this was the last place we wanted to be tonight. They did a good job swarming Kevin tonight. We are back to the drawing board defensively. We need to go back to basics." Garnett scored 13 points in the fourth quarter as Minnesota tried to mount a comeback, but Croshere answered with 10 points in the final 12 minutes, including hitting 8-of-8 from the line. Minnesota played without reserve center Michael Olowokandi, who was suspended for the game after an early morning incident at a downtown bar led to his arrest. According to police reports, Olowokandi refused to leave the bar after closing time and the owner asked police for help to get the 7-foot, 270-pounder out of the establishment. After refusing further requests to leave the bar, Olowokandi was shocked twice and arrested. The team suspended Olowokandi for Thursday's game. Any further action will come at a later date.
