Game StoryDALLAS (Ticker) -- Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks got no room to shoot against Rasheed Wallace and the Detroit Pistons. Wallace helped harass Nowitzki, the reigning Western Conference Player of the Week, into just 6-of-24 shooting as the Pistons easily defeated the Mavericks, 101-85. "A guy will get in his comfort zone if he hits his first couple of shots," said Wallace, who scored 13 points. "You try to make it hard for him since 90 percent of their offense goes through him. It was a team job. Myself, Ben (Wallace), Elden (Campbell), we just went out there and played." Chauncey Billups scored 24 points and Richard Hamilton had 19 for the Pistons, who shot 48 percent (38-of-79) and limited the Mavericks to 33 percent (30-of-90). "That's a team that is very offensive-minded," Billups said. "I thought our defense won the game for us. I thought Rasheed and Ben did a great job on Nowitzki, and that was the key." In his two previous games - wins at Houston on Thursday and vs. Utah on Saturday - Nowitzki scored a franchise-record 53 and 30 points, respectively. In this one, he got nothing going, though he did finish with 27 points after sinking 15-of-16 free throws. "I had a lot of good looks," Nowitzki said. "A lot of one or two dribbles and up, the in-between game, that is my game. I kept on shooting. That's what the team needs me to do and that's what everyone told me to do. It was a frustrating night for me." Detroit held a 49-39 cushion at the break, opened an 81-63 advantage after three quarters and led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter. "They were just executing their offense," Dallas guard Jason Terry said. "It was big because we were trying to get back into it. Every time we would score, they'd come down and score. Even when we didn't score, they came down and scored. It made it hard for us to come back." Hamilton scored 13 points in a four-minute stretch of the third quarter to help the Pistons open a 76-55 lead with 3:31 left in the period. "The guys did a good job of getting me the ball when I was open," Hamilton said. "The big guys did a good job of setting screens and I just made the shots." The Pistons capped a five-game road trip at 3-2. "It was a good road trip," Hamilton said. "We want to continue to do like this. We've just got to get home now and take care of business." Dallas made only 3-of-21 3-pointers, while Detroit went 5-of-14 from the arc. "We were cold from the field," Nowitzki said. "We were all frustrated."
