Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Clippers are picking up the victories you have to secure if you want to contend for a postseason berth in the Western Conference. Corey Maggette scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Bobby Simmons buried a critical jumper with 10 seconds remaining in the second overtime as the Clippers edged the Charlotte Bobcats, 99-93. Los Angeles hopes to contend for a playoff berth and is off to its best start in more than a decade. But the Clippers had dropped all three of their previous overtime contests - including a loss to Minnesota on Saturday - and were 1-3 in games decided by seven points or fewer this season. "It boils down to, we got a win," Maggette said. "I mean I'm happy for that, but you know, coach is not happy about the way we did our stuff. I'll take the win, but I know we have a lot of film to watch and a lot of stuff to work on because if that was a better team, we would have been in trouble." But Los Angeles showed a lot of moxie in this one, rallying late in regulation after star Elton Brand was ejected for throwing a punch at rookie Emeka Okafor. After a tight first extra period, Los Angeles took a 95-91 lead on a layup by Chris Kaman with 55 seconds left in the second overtime. "EB got ejected and everything, (then) I had to come in," Kaman said. "Our team played great. I just try to keep plugging at it." After two free throws by Okafor, Simmons sealed the Clippers' sixth win in seven games with a baseline jumper with 10 seconds to go. "We knew they had a lot of guys that can make shots and unfortunately they made some big shots and sent it to a double overtime," Simmons said. "And they made plays to execute in the end and we did also." Maggette made 19-of-21 free throws and Brand chipped in 19 points before being tossed. Jason Kapono, who played collegiately at UCLA, and Primoz Brezec had 14 points apiece for Charlotte. Okafor added 12 points and 15 rebounds but the Bobcats fell to 0-7 on the road and 0-3 vs. the Western Conference. "For two or three possessions there we didn't get a shot up," Kapono said. "At the end of the game I don't think we panicked, I just don't think we got quality shots, but that comes with time and hopefully we can learn from this one." The Bobcats did get 38 points from their bench but were limited to nine players due to injuries. "My hats off to my team." Charlotte coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "They came out and competed. We had guys who played a lot of minutes and they got a little tired down the stretch and had some turnovers. ... But other than that I can't find any fault with my basketball team. They laid it all out there." Charlotte led, 77-71, following a jumper by Brevin Knight with 3:18 to go but Maggette and Chris Wilcox had back-to-back three-point plays to knot the contest. Kaman was called for goaltending on Knight's layup with 46 seconds to go in regulation, but Maggette squared the contest with two free throws 17 seconds later. Knight and Marko Jaric exchanged misses in the final six seconds of regulation. The Clippers opened an 89-85 lead on a basket by Maggette with 42 seconds remaining, but Kapono had a jumper and Knight a steal and layup to force a second extra session. Mikki Moore had the only basket in the first 3 1/2 minutes of the second overtime "Someone has to win," Okafor said. "A team has to break away so they just happened to be that team. We just gave them the game. ... I guess we made one mistake or they got a break and ended up winning the game."
