Game Story

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Dwyane Wade took all the sentiment out of Mike Fratello's return to Miami. Wade came close to his first triple-double with 26 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, leading the Miami Heat to a 92-84 victory over Fratello and the Memphis Grizzlies. "That's a full line," Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said. "That's what we expect from him." "It's going to (happen) one day," Wade said. "I don't have to worry about it. I knew I was close, nine and nine, but I came up short." The win spoiled the return of Fratello, who spent two-plus seasons as a Heat TV commentator before taking over as coach of the Grizzlies two weeks ago. Shaquille O'Neal connected with Wade on a no-look alley-oop pass for a dunk during an 18-4 second-quarter run. O'Neal also scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth period, helping the Heat gradually pull away. "I was just trying to get everybody else involved," O'Neal said. "In the fourth quarter, I told (Van Gundy), 'Make sure I get it.' When I got it, I was able to hit Udonis (Haslem) ... and I made a couple of plays myself." Fratello, who previously coached Atlanta and Cleveland, had his team ready for the Heat. The game had 18 lead changes and was competitive until Miami went up, 85-74, when O'Neal found Haslem for a thunderous dunk with less than four minutes left. "It was a good game for us for 42 of the 48 minutes," Fratello said. "We just had one stretch where we couldn't do anything right and they did everything right." Miami shot 51 percent (32-of-63) from the field and won for the fourth time in five games. "We had some sloppy moments," Van Gundy said. "But at the end of the game, from an offensive standpoint, we finished well. Our only problem was we couldn't keep them off the boards." Lorenzen Wright scored 12 of his season-high 18 points in the third quarter and grabbed 11 rebounds for Memphis, which had a 22-8 edge on the offensive glass. "We had our chance to win the game," Wright said. "But we just didn't answer that Shaq run at the end. We had a couple guys we threw at him. No one guy's going to be able to stop Shaq. We just tried to gang up on him." Earl Watson had 12 points and 12 assists and Pau Gasol scored all 12 of his points in the first half for the Grizzlies, who fell to 3-2 under Fratello. In the end, Memphis had no counterpunch for Shaq or Wade, who combined to score 19 of Miami's 23 fourth quarter points. "Dwyane is doing a great job attacking the basket," Gasol said.
