Game StoryBOSTON (Ticker) -- Carmelo Anthony made only one basket in the fourth quarter, but it was a big one. Anthony's jumper with 3.6 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Denver Nuggets ended a two-game skid by edging the Boston Celtics, 100-99. It was Denver's first victory at the FleetCenter since November 15, 1996 - spanning seven games - and just the second time the Nuggets have beaten the Celtics in the last 12 meetings overall. "I'm was really proud of ours guys and the way they bounced back after yesterday's game," said Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik, who watched his team blow an 18-point lead during Tuesday night's 110-102 loss in Philadelphia. After Paul Pierce hit two free throws to give the Celtics a 99-98 lead with 10.7 seconds left, Anthony, who had missed his first four fourth-quarter shots, came off a screen by Kenyon Martin, dribbled to the top of the key and nailed the jumper over 7-footer Mark Blount. "My teammates know that I want the ball in those situations," Anthony said. "Once I saw Mark Blount and he didn't step up, I knew I had to take the shot; I was too wide open. They had been double-teaming me and trapping me the whole game and I was so wide open." The Celtics saw the play as a defensive breakdown. "We told them what was coming and we didn't execute our defense very well," Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said. "That's disappointing." Anthony led a starting frontcourt that each recorded double-doubles. The second-year forward had 25 points and 10 rebounds, Martin collected 18 and 11 and Marcus Camby 16 and 11. Pierce, who beat Portland with a buzzer shot on November 10, had a chance to win the game at the end. The All-Star took the inbound pass from Ricky Davis made one move towards the basket then faded away with Andre Miller in his face and saw his shot near the 3-point line hit the back of the rim as time expired. "You're forced into a shot with only three seconds left," said Pierce, who scored 31 points but only two in the fourth quarter. "If you look to pass, you're going to lose. I got the ball where I wanted it I just missed it." "He wasn't driving to the hoop," Miller said. "I wasn't letting him. I was trying to keep him in front of me and not bail him out." One game after scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter of a 134-127 double-overtime win over the Clippers, Ricky Davis again carried the Celtics down the stretch, scoring 13 of his 18 points in the final 12 minutes. Davis pulled the Celtics within 98-95 on a layup with 1:07 left and Gary Payton knocked down a pair of free throws with 35 seconds remaining, making it a one-point game. Anthony missed an eight-footer with Davis in his face before Pierce's late free throws.
