Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) - Seattle SuperSonics coach Nate McMillan couldn't pick a better place to start a five-game road trip. Rashard Lewis scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half when the SuperSonics built a big lead en route to an easy 94-79 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in a rare Thursday afternoon game. Coming off a home loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday night, McMillan was hoping to start a stretch of five games in eight days with a win over the Hawks, who have the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 5-23. "I thought we were pretty good, we came out sharp," McMillan said. "There was some concern because of how we played against Philadelphia and seeing how athletic the Hawks were on tape. I thought we were pretty sharp from the start." Despite the early starting time, the Sonics took control in the second quarter and cruised the rest of the way. Lewis scored 10 points in the second quarter when Seattle outscored the Hawks, 35-22. "When I woke up to eat breakfast it felt real early so I came down here early and it took me a long time to get loose, but I did get it going," Lewis said. Nick Collison was also a major factor in the first half, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds off the bench as the Sonics went into the break with a 61-44 advantage. "We have a very good bench," Collison said. "When we come in we really do not lose much. We do this quite a bit." A 3-pointer by Vladimir Radmanovic late in the third quarter capped a 10-1 run, giving Seattle its biggest lead at 84-61. Ray Allen highlighted the spurt with six of his 20 points. Allen and Lewis sat out most of the fourth quarter. "He (Lewis) and I are the leading scorers on the team, but we don't force the issue," Allen said. "We don't have to force our points. We don't have to do it when it's so demonstrative." However, center Jerome James and forward Danny Fortson of the Sonics were ejected for being quite "demonstrative" towards referee Bob Delaney. James was upset after being called for an offensive foul in the third quarter and received a technical. He was ejected after continuing to dispute the call. Fortson complained to Delaney, claiming he was being fouled inside and received a technical in the fourth quarter. He was tossed by Delaney after shoving Hawks guard Tyronn Lue. The Sonics improved to 10-3 on the road and will play at Charlotte, which owns the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference, on Friday. Antoine Walker led the Hawks with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie Josh Smith added 10 points and seven rebounds. "It's kind of frustrating when you have a losing record," Smith said. "We can't dwell on that. We just need to lock in for the New Year." Seattle made 9-of-17 shots from the arc, including three by Allen, while Atlanta shot just 39 percent from the field. The win completed a series sweep for the Sonics, who beat the Hawks, 106-85, in Seattle on November 5 as Allen scored 25.
