Game StoryCHICAGO (Ticker) -- Richard Hamilton and the Detroit Pistons have made the United Center their home away from home. Hamilton scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half as the Pistons defeated the Chicago Bulls, 87-80, for their ninth straight win at the United Center. Hamilton scored Detroit's final 10 points and keyed a 14-4 run that put the Pistons up for good, 83-74, with 1:44 remaining. "I think as it gets later in the game, I think we get better." Hamilton said. Detroit managed just 14 first-quarter points but went on a 15-2 spurt in the second period, opening a 29-26 lead on a 3-pointer by Rasheed Wallace. "Everyone really helped out," Pistons coach Larry Brown said. "We had some guys come in off the bench that gave us a lift." Rookie Ben Gordon turned things around with 17 of his 27 points in the second quarter, including a high-arching layup off the glass just before the half that gave Chicago a 44-39 edge. Hamilton, who outscored Gordon in a battle of former University of Connecticut stars, admitted he wasn't thinking about the head-to-head matchup. "No not really," Hamilton said. "But it shows how (Huskies coach Jim) Calhoun produces great guards. Ben was great. But it was nice to get the win." Gordon was held scoreless in the third quarter. "They were really keying on me after a while," Gordon said. "I did still manage to get some looks. The battle with Hamilton was a duel." "Ben does not yet have the stamina to play huge minutes in a game," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said. "We try to keep him fresh and I think tonight was a good example of that. Clearly, he just wore down." Detroit increased the defensive intensity when necessary in the second half, holding Chicago to one basket in the final five minutes of the third quarter and one in the final 5:45 of the fourth. "Our second-half defense really carried us and it was really good." Brown said. "For the most part, we managed the ball well tonight." Tayshaun Prince scored 15 points and Ben Wallace grabbed 16 rebounds for the Pistons, who have won five of six. Prince's defense caught the eye of Brown, who credited him with slowing down Gordon. "Tayshaun did a great job on him," Brown said. "I thought in the second half he forced (Gordon) into taking some tougher shots." Kirk Hinrich scored 19 points and Tyson Chandler swept 14 rebounds for the Bulls. Chicago played without center Eddy Curry, who had the flu. "We sure missed Eddy tonite," Hinrich said. "We like getting him the ball in the paint every time down the floor when he's in there and we didn't have that going for us."
