Game StoryDALLAS (Ticker) -- Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki helped the Dallas Mavericks do something they have only done once before. Terry made 5-of-5 3-pointers and scored a season-high 28 points and Nowitzki collected 25 and nine rebounds as the Mavericks posted a 118-104 triumph over the Los Angeles Lakers. After winning their final two games against the Lakers last season, the Mavericks have won three consecutive games against the storied franchise for the first time since 1987. "Hopefully the times have changed," Mavericks guard Michael Finley said. "Over those years they've had a number of championships. Hopefully we can get a couple of those championships now." Kobe Bryant's reaction was much less eloquent. "That (stinks)," Bryant said. "Thank you." The Mavericks took control by closing the first quarter with a 21-3 run for a 30-17 lead. Terry scored 13 points during the run, making three 3-pointers. "I just kept attacking," Terry said. "I started out getting in the lane, hitting guys in their rhythm. Then they found me on the other end and I knocked a couple down." "I love his game," Bryant said. "I loved his game when he was in Atlanta. I'm happy for him that he's in this situation where he can play on a winning ballclub. He's just extremely confident." Terry was coming off two consecutive double figure assists games - 14 vs. Boston and 10 vs. Milwaukee. "(Terry) is looking a lot better lately," Nowitzki said. "He's making things happen for us to help us win. He's pushing the ball for us. I think he's just getting more comfortable and picking up the system." Nowitzki registered his sixth straight 20-point performance. All five Dallas starters reached double figures as the team connected on a season-best 55 percent (46-of-83) from the floor. "That's our strength," Nowitzki said. "We have a lot of scorers out there. Anyone can get it going on a given night." "They just killed us offensively," Laker coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "Dirk Nowitzki is a great player. He can shoot over people, he can spin around them, and we didn't expect Jason Terry to do that." Bryant was held scoreless in the opening period before scoring 16 of his 32 points in the second quarter. His 13th 30-point effort could not get Los Angeles closer than 10 points in the second half. The Lakers are 6-7 when Bryant scores 30 or more. "I missed my first few shots but I finally got one to go down," Bryant said. His 13th 30-point effort could not get Los Angeles closer than 10 points in the second half. The Lakers are 6-7 when Bryant scores 30 or more. "You don't necessarily have to win ballgames to progress," Bryant said. "Sometimes you can take something from one of these games. Hopefully we'll learn something."
