Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- A complete effort by the Atlanta Hawks denied the Milwaukee Bucks an elusive fourth straight win. Tyronn Lue led seven players in double figures with 18 points and dished out nine assists as the Hawks snapped a six-game losing streak with a 103-80 rout of the Bucks, who failed to stretch their winning run to four for the third time this season. Entering with the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 5-26, the Hawks used a 15-2 run at the end of the first quarter to distance themselves from the Bucks, who had tied the game at 14-14 on Zaza Pachulia's dunk with 4:16 remaining. Predrag Drobnjak scored four of his 13 points during the burst, which gave Atlanta a 29-16 lead. Al Harrington collected 12 of his 14 in the quarter. Jason Collier and rookie Josh Childress each scored 12 points, rookie Josh Smith had 11, four steals and four blocks and Antoine Walker added 10 and 11 rebounds for the Hawks, who posted their largest victory since a 25-point triumph over Toronto on November 18, 2002. "Everybody shared the ball and took good shots," Lue said. "We were able to do that tonight and that's why we won." Atlanta held the edge in nearly every category, outrebounding Milwaukee, 47-28, dominating points in the paint, 66-38, and accumulating a 24-6 edge in fast-break points. "We needed a win. We came out with a lot of energy and finished the game tonight, played for 48 minutes," said Walker, whose team had dropped 11 of its previous 12 games. "That's what we have to do to continue to get better." "(It was) definitely a good win for us tonight, a win we needed," Collier added. "It was very balanced offensively out there. Everyone was shooting the ball well." The Hawks also suffocated the Bucks on the defensive end, forcing 16 turnovers by Milwaukee and holding leading scorer Michael Redd to 10 points on 5-of-17 shooting. "(Redd) is kind of the nuts and bolts of their team," Atlanta coach Mike Woodson said. "I thought our guys did a terrific job defending him." "We blew a golden opportunity," Redd said. "Give Atlanta a lot of credit, they played well tonight and we helped them by committing a lot of turnovers. While you will have games like this, there is no excuse tonight. We didn't do a good job taking care of the ball, and it's been an Achilles heel for us." Mike James scored 14 points and Desmond Mason added 13 for Milwaukee, which trailed by as many as 29 points in the third quarter. "Atlanta gave us a good old southern take-you-to-the-backyard-shed spanking," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "Every facet of the game we were beaten in tonight. It was disappointing. This was probably the worst effort we have given all season." "I look at the last 10 games and we've been in games, we've had leads in those games, but we hadn't put a full 48-minute game together," Woodson said. "That's the difference. Tonight, we played from beginning to end, and the result was a nice win." Milwaukee center Dan Gadzuric left the game after playing just six minutes with stomach pains and was taken to a hospital. Precautionary tests were negative and he accompanied the team on its flight to San Antonio.
