Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Ray Allen may not have had Rashard Lewis on his side against the Golden State Warriors, but he still received plenty of support. Allen scored 22 points, Antonio Daniels chipped in 19 and Ronald Murray a season-high 17 as the Seattle SuperSonics extended the Warriors' season-high losing streak to eight games with a 103-84 triumph. Lewis, Seattle's second offensive option behind perennial All-Star Allen, sat out with left knee tendinitis. He injured the knee in the first half of Wednesday's loss at the Los Angeles Clippers and did not return. "In the first half we just didn't do a good job of executing the game plan," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. "The second half we started to defend and were able to get control of the game." McMillan especially was impressed with Murray, who made 8-of-13 shots and grabbed six rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench. "I thought Ronald played well," McMillan said. "I thought he was aggressive and defensively was involved in the game. Offensively, when he has it going and he's not knocking down some shots, it's hard to stop him." Daniels scored 11 points and Allen eight in the third quarter to help Seattle turn a 52-52 tie at the break into an 81-71 cushion entering the final period. Golden State got within nine points in the first minute of the fourth quarter before Seattle pulled away, opening as much as a 20-point advantage in the final minute. "I didn't look at this as an opportunity to change my role," said Daniels, who made his first start of the year in place of Lewis. "Tonight I don't think I did anything different that what I regularly do. It's just that the minutes were there." Seattle forward Danny Fortson contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench against his former team. "Fortson came in and pushed us around," Warriors coach Mike Montgomery said. "They were shooting the ball and getting threes. We didn't have much cooking other than Speedy." Speedy Claxton scored 27 points - one shy of his career high - and Troy Murphy added 20 and 13 rebounds for the Warriors, whose slide has coincided with losing guard Jason Richardson to a sprained left ankle. Claxton recorded 15 of the Warriors' 19 points in the third quarter. "I'm just tired of us losing in the third quarter," Claxton said. "I guess I just kind of had the hot hand and I was getting to the basket easily." Claxton said he sensed the Warriors were a tired team in the second half. Golden State scored just 32 points in the final two quarters points and tallied fewer than 90 for the fifth consecutive game. "We got broken down a lot," he said. "We just looked sluggish in the second half. We were just getting tired out there. I don't know why." Montgomery said he agreed with Claxton. "I think in this particular instance we got tired," he said. "Our bench kind of let us down tonight. I think we got outscored 47-9 off the bench. We were kind of relying on Speedy to carry the whole load, and that's not fair to him." Golden State shot 43 percent (33-of-76) from the field but allowed Seattle to connect on 51 percent (43-of-84).
