Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Corey Maggette did it early and then did it late to send the Miami Heat home on a losing note. Maggette finished an impressive set of overtime periods with a difficult fallaway jumper in the final second as the Clippers posted a 114-112 double-overtime victory over the Heat. Maggette scored 10 points in the first quarter but seemed to disappear thereafter. When the teams went into overtime, he woke up. Maggette scored seven points in the first extra session and nailed the door shut with a pair of impressive scores in the second OT. After Damon Jones hit a running jumper to give Miami a 112-110 lead with 32 seconds left, Maggette responded six seconds later with a strong drive past Shaquille O'Neal for a game-tying layup with 26 seconds to play. Playing their second straight game without floor leader Dwyane Wade, who sat with a fever and migraine headache, the Heat failed miserably on their next possession and turned it over on a shot-clock violation. Maggette took the ensuing inbounds pass, and with swingman Shandon Anderson in his face, drained a tough 22-footer from the right side. The Heat never got off a tying shot. "Thank god it went in," Maggette said of his game-winner. "Kerry Kittles made a great pass and I turned around and had a look at it and it went in. This was great for our team. What we did today was a great team effort. Everyone came in and did some great things." Maggette scored 28 points and Elton Brand had 29 and 13 rebounds for the Clippers, who overcame an early 16-point deficit. "First of all, we have to credit coach (Mike) Dunleavy in practice," Maggette said. "We've really been going over running plays of guys running off the baseline and coming off a curl for last-second shots at winning a game. It came down to it and I made it." O'Neal scored 39 points to finish a strong road trip and forced the second overtime with a follow shot with two seconds left. He was a season-high 15-of-28 from the line - better than his 47 percent season mark - but missed five late in regulation and in the overtimes. "It was a well played game," O'Neal said. "Lucky shot by Corey." O'Neal, who averaged 31.0 points and 10.8 rebounds on the road trip, was 4-of-9 from the line after the third quarter, with many of the attempts in tight situations. Los Angeles fouled out two centers and had little-used Mamadou N'diaye guarding O'Neal late. "I knew coach would," O'Neal said of coach Stan Van Gundy's desire to go inside repeatedly with O'Neal. "I was just a little upset with myself. I couldn't put two (free throws) together. I only hit one but the second one was right there just a little off the mark. "I should have had 50 tonight," O'Neal said. "I really should have. We had a lead and then our second team came in and the Clippers got hot. This is a game we could have won. Damon (Jones) was off a little bit and I was off on the free throw line a little bit. It's just probably the woes of a long road trip." The Heat fell to 3-1 in overtime games and 2-3 on their trip. They had won 15 of 16 before the swing began. "We were 2-3 on this five-game road trip which is really not acceptable for a team like this," O'Neal added. "We let two slip away, maybe three. We get two or three days off going home and we just need to pick it back up." The Clippers have won two games in as many nights against the Seattle SuperSonics and Miami, two teams with a combined mark of 54-20. "Top two or three teams in the NBA," Brand said. "Granted (the Heat) were missing a player or two but so were we. We took it to overtime and took it to them. We were leading most of the overtimes and could have put it away by just recovering the rebound Shaq got and put it back." "It was an incredible win for us from the standpoint of how hard our guys played," Dunleavy said. "It was a see-saw battle, and there were plenty of opportunities to give it up. Everyone came in and contributed and did a great job for us."
