Game StoryATLANTA (Ticker) -- Al Harrington got off to a solid start and the Atlanta Hawks followed his lead. Harrington scored 22 points as the Hawks posted a 103-95 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats in a matchup of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks won for just the seventh time in 34 games and avenged a 107-92 road loss to the Bobcats on November 27. Expansion Charlotte fell to 8-25. Harrington made six of his first eight shots and scored 13 points in the opening quarter, helping Atlanta shoot 62 percent (13-of-21) from the floor and take a 27-20 lead. "Al got it going early," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "It's the kind of game Al can play every night. Eight rebounds, five assists. He shot 10-for-16 from the field, 22 points and his team won. That's what it's all about." "He's right about that," Harrington said. "My biggest thing was I was just trying to concentrate on defending and rebounding and the offense would take care of itself. I was able to do things to get us over the hump." Atlanta widened the gap with a 12-2 spurt in the second quarter, capped by seven straight points from Antoine Walker, to take a 56-38 advantage. Walker scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his seventh consecutive double-double. "(Harrington and I) got going offensively," Walker said. "They double-teamed us and they started a smaller guy on me. So I just wanted to be the big guy and let everyone play off that. And if I got a chance to go 1-on-1, I got a couple of times to score that way." The Hawks held a 53-33 rebounding edge as they won for just the second time in their last nine contests and the first time against a Southeast Division opponent. "I thought (the Hawks) played well," Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "We were outrebounded by 20. They made shots when they had to make them. But you won't win many basketball games when you shoot 9-for-20 from the free throw line and get outrebounded by 20." Charlotte's Jason Hart came off the bench to tie his career high with 19 points, including 11 in a 17-3 run against the Hawks' bench late in the fourth quarter that cut the deficit to 101-95 with 12 seconds left. "Tonight we struggled," Bobcats guard Kareem Rush said. "We should have come out and played a lot better. Tonight, we got outrebounded by 20 and that's the story of the game." Despite the late run, Hawks coach Mike Woodson chose to stick with his bench and rest his starters after the team's nightmarish trip to Boston. After their charter was canceled Thursday due to weather, the Hawks took a very turbulent early morning flight into Boston on Friday and did not arrive home until 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Atlanta looked sluggish early and Charlotte opened an early 8-5 lead. But thanks in part to Harrington, Atlanta went on a 10-3 run to take a 15-11 advantage with 7:13 remaining in the first quarter. "I was more tired yesterday," Harrington said. "Today, I was fine. I think we were all fine. We were rebounding strong. We did a great job on the glass. It was all right."
