Game Story

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Gilbert Arenas more than made up for an awful offensive performance. Unfortunately for the Washington Wizards, they again could not slow down a Texan opponent. Arenas scored a career-high 43 points before fouling out late but it was not enough as the Wizards got torched by the Dallas Mavericks for the second time this season, 137-120. On Monday, Arenas scored just three points on 0-of-12 shooting in a 101-73 setback at San Antonio. In this one, he shot 11-of-23 from the field and 15-of-18 from the line but it was not nearly enough for the Wizards, who trailed by as many as 37 points. Dirk Nowitzki collected 28 points - including the 10,000th of his career - and 11 rebounds for Dallas, which posted a 122-113 road victory over the Wizards on November 14. That was the most points surrendered by Washington all season until this one. Jerry Stackhouse scored 29 points, Jason Terry 26 and Michael Finley 25 for the Mavericks, who opened a 40-20 lead after one quarter and pushed the advantage to 73-40 at the break. The Wizards, playing their second straight game without guard Larry Hughes (fractured right thumb), trailed, 77-40, early in the third quarter before pulling within 11 points in the final few minutes. Antawn Jamison contributed 27 points and 10 rebounds and Juan Dixon added 19 starting in place of Hughes for the Wizards, who have lost back-to-back games after winning seven in a row.
