Game StoryBOSTON (Ticker) -- Rookie Al Jefferson's career night off the bench helped prevent the Chicago Bulls from evening their record for the first time this season. Jefferson scored eight of his career-high 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Boston Celtics continued their strong play at home and ended the Bulls' seven-game winning streak with a 92-83 victory. Unbeaten since an 87-80 loss to Detroit on January 3, the Bulls looked to even their mark at 18-18 after opening the season with nine straight setbacks. They carried a 69-68 lead into the final quarter and increased the margin to three on Eddy Curry's layup with 9:32 remaining. But after Ricky Davis' jumper pulled Boston within 75-74 with eight minutes to go, Jefferson sank a pair of free throws four seconds later to give the Celtics a lead they never would relinquish. "I'm not used to being on the court that late in the game," Jefferson said. "But I'm starting to get a little more comfortable with it." Jefferson hit two jumpers, Paul Pierce scored eight points and Gary Payton added four down the stretch as Boston improved to 8-1 in its last nine games at FleetCenter. "We'll just have to start another streak," said Curry, who scored 26 points. "There's plenty of games left." "(The winning streak) was a streak of games that we put together where we played well," Bulls forward Antonio Davis added. "We fell. Now we have to get back up and get our composure back together and get back to doing the little things." With 17 points, Jefferson surpassed his previous high of 16 at Orlando on November 29. Pierce had 28 points, 11 rebounds and six assists and Jefferson pulled down 10 boards for the Celtics, who posted their 100th win in 175 all-time meetings with the Bulls. Trailing, 12-4, the Celtics used a 21-8 spurt in which Jefferson scored seven points to take a 25-20 lead with 2:17 remaining in the first quarter. A 3-pointer by Raef LaFrentz with 9:57 to go in the third put Boston ahead, 55-54, before Kirk Hinrich scored seven points during a 12-2 burst that gave Chicago its largest lead at 66-57. "We've got to keep our intensity high for all 48 minutes," Pierce said. "We don't have a Shaq (Shaquille O'Neal), we don't have a Tim Duncan and we don't have a (Kevin) Garnett. We have to play harder than everybody else every night." The Bulls entered the game with wins in three of their previous four meetings with the Celtics, including a 102-91 home triumph January 8. "They really have been having our number as of late," Pierce said. "We wanted to come in and really put it to them because we don't feel like we should lose to the Bulls, even though they're an improved team. We're an improved team, too. We just feel like we're better." Hinrich scored 12 points and dished out six assists and Tyson Chandler had eight, 14 rebounds and four blocks for Chicago, which held its opponent under 100 points for the 23rd consecutive game.
