Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Mike James showed the Milwaukee Bucks how to beat the Detroit Pistons at their own game. James scored nine of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and the Bucks used some uncommon hustle and defense for an 89-86 victory over the Pistons, who have lost two in a row. James was a member of Detroit's 2004 NBA championship team. As a backup guard, he provided energy, hustle and tough defense, all trademarks of the team. Signed by Milwaukee as a free agent, James has split the point guard duties with Maurice Williams and is averaging 10.5 points and 3.9 assists while offering defense for the often passive Bucks. "On the court, it was a battle," James said. "I'm not going to worry about friendships until after the game." Milwaukee squandered a fourth-quarter lead and trailed, 84-80, before James buried a 3-pointer with 2:09 to go. Rasheed Wallace answered with a jumper 22 seconds later, but Detroit did not score again. "They got it done down the stretch and we didn't, that was the difference," Pistons coach Larry Brown said. Keith Van Horn made two free throws at the 1:29 mark and Desmond Mason added two 40 seconds later for an 87-86 lead. Michael Redd split a pair from the line with 10 seconds to play before Wallace missed a 3-pointer. "We needed a win like that," Van Horn said. "We're going to see more games with that kind of intensity as the season goes on." James was fouled and made 1-of-2 from the line with 1.2 seconds remaining. Richard Hamilton's running 3-pointer bounced off the rim at the buzzer. Often diving for loose balls, the Bucks forced the Pistons to miss their last five shots and held a 37-30 rebounding advantage as they improved to 2-0 in the season series. They also held red-hot Tayshaun Prince scoreless over the final six minutes. "I'm pleased with how we stayed focused on the defensive end and when all was said and done, we made the plays, got the loose balls, and got the rebounds," Mason said. Joe Smith had 14 points and nine rebounds and Redd scored 13 points for Milwaukee, which had lost five of six overall but has won five of its last six home games. Prince scored a career-high 26 points for the second time this week and Chauncey Billups added 18 for the Pistons, who had won a season-high six in a row before this slide.
