Game StoryCHICAGO (Ticker) -- Eddy Curry shook off an injury, enabling the Chicago Bulls to hold off the Denver Nuggets. Curry, who did not start due to a strained right groin, had 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the surging Bulls ran their home winning streak to six games with a 111-107 triumph over the Nuggets. The Bulls' young center, who is third in the NBA in shooting percentage, made 7-of-9 shots. He scored nine points in a pivotal 13-6 spurt early in the final period. "I was playing some one-on-one with (Antonio Davis) and I guess I wasn't warmed up enough cause I hurt something in my groin," Curry said. "Trainers were able to do a good job to get me looser by halftime. I also took a couple of Advil, which helped me relax and get the job done." Rookie Ben Gordon also chipped in late, burying a key 3-pointer with 31 seconds to go. He scored 18 points. Chicago improved to 21-10 since starting the season 0-9 but had its streak of holding opponents under 100 points snapped at 26. It was the longest active streak in the NBA, "It was a disappointment because we had a nice string going," Chicago coach Scott Skiles. "But any win in this league is an accomplishment, especially since we suit up so many young players." "It wasn't our best defensive effort but we were able to get a good offensive game from Eddy and Ben, especially in the fourth quarter," Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich said. "Winning is the key in any game and we seem to be able to do that now." The Bulls also are 9-9 against the Western Conference this season and one of just five East teams at .500 or better against the West. Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points for Denver (17-24), which fell to 4-9 under interim coach Michael Cooper. "I thought it was a heck of a game," Cooper said. "Our defense is lacking a little more than I like. We didn't do a good job of keeping them out of the paint. It's time to start winning games. There are close games we play well enough to win, but we don't do the little things." "We always come back when we get behind but when we get right there we don't get over the hump," Anthony said. "I don't know what it is but we need to learn to overcome that." Anthony had 12 points in the opening quarter, including the final eight of the period as Denver led 27-19 after 12 minutes. The Bulls fought back in the second quarter and led, 51-49, at the half. Denver shot 51 percent (20-of-39) in the opening half but committed 12 turnovers. A very tight third quarter saw neither team lead by more than six and Chicago took a 79-78 edge into the final quarter. After the teams exchanged baskets in the opening minute of the period, Curry had a layup with 10:29 to go. The basket pushed the Bulls' lead to 83-80 and ignited a 13-6 burst. Curry had nine and Gordon four in the run, which Gordon capped with a driving layup with 7:59 remaining. Denver got within 96-95 with 4:10 remaining but Hinrich hit an 18-footer to stem the tide. Nene buried a 16-footer for the Nuggets but Curry responded with a short hook. A 3-pointer by Anthony with 26 seconds left got Denver within 109-107 but he missed a 29-footer eight seconds later that would have given the Nuggets the lead. Rookie Andres Nocioni added two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
