Game Story

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- The mere thought of a broom gave 
Raul Lopez added incentive against the Seattle SuperSonics.

Lopez set season highs with 20 points and 11 assists for his
first double-double of the season as the Utah Jazz posted a
109-100 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics.

The Jazz won for just the fourth time in their last 17 games and
prevented Seattle from its first season sweep over Utah since
the 1982-1983 season.

Lopez, who made his sixth start of the season, is seeing an
increase in playing time after Carlos Arroyo was traded to
Detroit and Keith McLeod went on the injured list.

After averaging 13.6 minutes, Lopez played 38 in this one and
led a Utah offense that shot 50 percent (38-of-76) with seven
players in double figures.

"You know he's tired when I got the ball at the end of the game
at the top of the key," Jazz guard Raja Bell said.  "He played
his heart out tonight and that's what this league is all about.
It's about when you get your opportunities, stepping up and
taking advantage.  He did it like a true pro."

"Sometimes, it's not just about you," Lopez said.  "When all the
team plays better, it's easier to play better.  When everyone
plays bad, it's harder to be on your game.  So I have to thank
everybody for playing well."

Ray Allen scored 13 of his 27 points in the second quarter
points and Antonio Daniels had 15 in the third to help Seattle
overcome a sluggish start.  But unlike their last two home
games, the Jazz did not fall apart in the second half.

Utah made a furious 26-8 surge bridging the third and fourth
quarters, capped by a driving layup by Andrei Kirilenko, for a
96-83 lead with five minutes left.  Raja Bell scored 14 of his
18 points during the run, including consecutive 3-pointers at
the end of the third.

"We've got guys who can shoot the ball," Bell said.  "We've got
guys who can score on the interior.  It's about our execution
and our willingness to do the right thing every time down.  And
I think in that third quarter, we started doing that."

"I thought they came out and did what they had to do," Seattle
coach Nate McMillan said.  "We didn't have the ball movement
we've had in the last couple of games.  And defensively in the
second half, we just didn't stop anybody."

The Sonics, who averaged 116 points and shot 50 percent in their
first three victories over Utah, were much more sporadic this
time around.  Seattle scored just 18 points in the opening
quarter and shot only 42 percent (32-of-77).

On the other hand, the Jazz had their third-highest point total
of the season.  Utah's season high in points came in a 129-119
overtime loss to Seattle on December 1.

"I thought the games were pretty identical, statistically,"
Allen said.  "(But) we didn't pass the ball well.  Offensively
we were so-so.  We weren't good.  We were average tonight.  They
were sitting home rested, and they played well."

"I think we're a better team than they were.  Seattle forward
Rashard Lewis said.  "We just outplayed them (before).   I
thought they were the more physical team tonight.  The last
three games, we were the more physical team.  But tonight we
just didn't have it."

Playing his third game since returning from a knee injury,
Kirilenko scored 12 points in 20 minutes and had five blocks.
Matt Harpring and Mehmet Okur added 17 points apiece for Utah,
which reached the 100-point mark for the third time in four
games.

Daniels finished with 25 points and Luke Ridnour added 17 for
Seattle, which had five players in double figures.
