Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Steve Nash turned a return to Canada into yet another showcase for his diverse talents. Nash scored 19 points and had 12 assists before sitting out the entire fourth quarter and Amare Stoudemire had 19 of his 27 points in the third quarter as the Phoenix Suns routed the Toronto Raptors, 123-105. Nash, who grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, used his only game in Canada this season to add to his already impressive list of accomplishments. The heady point guard made 7-of-12 shots and committed just two turnovers, directing the NBA's best offense to yet another proficient performance. "He did a couple of things today that I was amazed at," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I could sit here and talk about Steve all the time ... we do a lot of good things and Steve makes it all go." "We have a lot of terrific offensive players," Nash said. "We are very athletic and get into the open court. It is very difficult to contain us." Shawn Marion added 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Suns, who are 4-0 on a six-game road trip and have scored more than 120 in each contest. Phoenix last recorded four straight games with 120 points during the 1992-93 season. The Suns have shot at least 50 percent in each game during the run and Nash has 44 assists in the last three. The only player in the league to average double figures in points and assists and one of only three guards in the league to shoot 50 percent from the floor, Nash was effective early. He scored nine points and handed out four assists as Phoenix opened a 30-21 lead after 12 minutes. "That is just Nash," Stoudemire said. "He comes out and gives you a double-double every night, especially in assists. Steve came out aggressive on the offensive end. He's pretty much been the leader and we are used to it." With Nash scoring 17 and Richardson 15, Stoudemire had just four points at the half as Phoenix built a 58-46 edge. But the third-year center dominated the third quarter, making 8-of-10 shots as the Suns pulled away for a 104-72 advantage heading into the final period. Phoenix's 46 points in the third quarter were the most ever by a Toronto opponent in any quarter. "We have breakout quarters like that from time to time and that certainly was one to remember, maybe one of our best," Nash added. Chris Bosh tied his career high with 27 points for Toronto, which was without Rafer Alston. The Raptors' starting point guard - who is seventh in the league at 7.1 assists per game - was suspended two games for conduct detrimental to the team. The suspension reportedly stems from an incident with coach Sam Mitchell at Saturday's practice. Toronto has dropped nine of the last 14 meetings between the clubs. "We got beat bad," Mitchell said. "Outplayed at every position. They were just a better team tonight, there is not much more to say." "It got handed to us," Toronto swingman Jalen Rose said. "There are no ifs, ands or buts about it."
