Game StoryWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Something about the Washington Wizards brings out the best in Chauncey Billups. Billups scored 28 points, including 11 in the decisive fourth quarter, and handed out nine assists as the Detroit Pistons extended their winning streak over the Wizards to eight games with a 105-96 triumph. On December 29, Billups helped Detroit keep alive its run against Washington with the winning jumper with seven-tenths of a second remaining. The 2004 NBA Finals MVP scored a season-high 32 points in that game, including 21 in the second half. In this one, Billups scored nine points in the first quarter and added four in the second period as the Pistons carried a 52-47 lead into the break. "I know they've got some great guards on their team that are going to be aggressive and I just want to try to be aggressive, too, and make those guys work so they don't have so much energy coming late down the stretch," Billups said. Washington used a 9-0 run in the third period to build a 75-70 advantage heading into the final 12 minutes, but Billups helped Detroit post a 35-point quarter, scoring all 11 of his points in the final 5:09. Trailing, 83-81, with 6:50 to play, the Pistons put together a 13-2 burst to move ahead, 94-85, with 4:15 left and never looked back. "We knew they would start pressing and running around," Billups said. "We just needed to get what we wanted at the time we wanted it in the shot clock. We've been in so many games like this, it's kind of like clockwork. "Tonight, we were just focused. Nobody was trying too hard to do anything. We just let their defense dictate what we were doing." Of Billups' three top scoring performances of the season, two have come against the Wizards. Tayshaun Prince scored 25 points, Richard Hamilton chipped in 23 and Rasheed Wallace 18 and 12 rebounds for Detroit, which stretched its overall winning streak to four games. Antawn Jamison scored 26 points and Gilbert Arenas added 21 and eight assists for the Wizards, who have dropped three straight overall after four consecutive wins. "These are the world champs," Jamison said. "They know how to clamp down defensively. They know their defense is their strength and they rode it." Despite allowing well more than the 65.7 points per game in their previous three contests, the Pistons also cited their defense as the key to the victory. "We always feed off of our defense," Billups said. "We always feel like we're going to make some big plays defensively, whether it be a charge, a steal. ... When we win with our defense, we're at our best because we've got enough offensive players to make shots and make plays. It's all about our defense." With his team having the ball stolen 11 times and blocked 10 times by Detroit, Washington coach Eddie Jordan agreed with Billups. "Detroit manhandled us in the paint, second-chance points (22-9) and rebounding," he said. "We competed physically, but not at that level." The Wizards scored the game's first eight points - five by Jamison - and built the lead to 21-9 with 4:52 to go in the first quarter. But Prince scored seven points during a 16-4 run by the Pistons that ended the period and forged a 25-25 tie. Detroit took its first lead of the game on Wallace's jumper with 8:08 remaining in the second quarter.
