Game StorySACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Mike Bibby and Brad Miller carried the shorthanded Sacramento Kings as far as they could and the hapless New York Knicks did the rest. Bibby scored a career-high 40 points and Miller added 35, but it was a late-game collapse by the Knicks that allowed the Kings to post a 116-115 victory. Matt Barnes, one of three Sacramento players making rare starts in the wake of a host of injuries, figured prominently in the end. It was his steal and assist to Miller with 31 seconds left that tied the game, part of a 9-1 run by the Kings to close the contest. "The plays that Matt Barnes made tonight were terrific," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said of his young forward, who matched a career high with four steals. After New York's Penny Hardaway missed on the other end, Barnes was fouled and made the second of two free throws for the final margin. The Knicks had one last shot, but Hardaway - who threw the pass Barnes intercepted - had the ball stolen again by Barnes as he struggled to drive to the basket. As he was sliding out of bounds on his back, Barnes collected the ball and threw it to Miller, who tossed it away to kill the final few seconds. In the game's final 48 seconds, Hardaway had two turnovers, missed the 3-pointer and committed the foul that led to Barnes' winning free throw. "I knew I was fouled on the pass that they stole at the end and I felt like I had a pretty good strip on Barnes," Hardaway said. "The strip was definitely not a foul. That's what we get when we let teams hang around." Bibby scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and made the biggest shot of the late run, hitting a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left to cut the Kings' deficit to 115-113. Barnes' first steal came just after the ensuing inbounds pass, nearly completing New York's collapse. "It's a fun win to be able to not play that well, but at the end we stepped up and made some unbelievable plays," said Miller, who topped the 30-point mark for the second straight game. The efforts by Bibby and Miller helped offset the absence of starters Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic and Cuttino Mobley, who collectively sat for the second game in a row. "What can you say about Mike and Brad, they were unbelievable," Adelman said. "Hopefully, we will get some guys back because I don't know how much more of this I can take and how much more we can do this. Those guys deserve a lot of credit in that locker room." The Knicks were 6-of-16 from the line in the fourth quarter, when they led by as many as 11 points. They fell to 0-4 on their season-high six-game road trip, dropped their eighth in a row in Sacramento and plummeted to 2-15 in 2005. The slide has given New York sole possession of last place in the Atlantic Division. "I think this loss today was probably the most disappointing of them all," Knicks guard Stephon Marbury said. Marbury, who boasted he was the best point guard in the NBA before New York's 17-game slide, was very good in this one, matching a season high with 37 points on 15-of-19 shooting. He was just 5-of-10 from the line, however, and missed a pair with less than four minutes left. The Knicks held a 110-99 lead when Marbury missed the free throws, opening the door for a quick 6-0 burst by the Kings. "You never think you have the game won with Sacramento and with teams out west," Knicks interim coach Herb Williams said. "They can score points fast and in bunches."
