Game StorySAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Something about playing in San Antonio brings the best out of Lorenzen Wright and the Memphis Grizzlies. Wright scored 10 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Grizzlies ended the Spurs' 16-game home winning streak with an 84-82 victory. Last season, Wright hit the go-ahead basket here as Memphis posted an 81-80 victory on March 1. Since that defeat, San Antonio had lost just two contests at the SBC Center - to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game Five of the Western Conference semifinals and to the Seattle SuperSonics on December 8. "They are an aggressive team," Spurs All-Star guard Manu Ginobili said. "We have the best record in the league, so we have to come out aggressive every night because people are going to be coming for us every night." In this one, Wright combined with Earl Watson to score all the points in an 8-0 run that gave the Grizzlies a 75-69 lead with just under three minutes remaining. "Lorenzen was huge tonight," Watson said. "He was really playing (Spurs All-Star forward) Tim Duncan hard, so we had to reward him and get the ball on the offensive end." The Spurs rallied, drawing within 77-75 with just under a minute to go on a pair of free throws by Ginobili before Watson set up Wright with a behind-the-back pass for an easy dunk 15 seconds later to push Memphis' edge back to four points. Duncan, who had 27 points and 19 rebounds, added two more free throws to halve the deficit, but Watson preserved the lead with a jumper over Tony Parker, making it 81-77 with 16.3 seconds left. "Earl's step-back jumper at the end was big," Grizzlies coach Mike Fratello said. "That shot was not set up for me," Watson said. "They just wanted me to create. I lost the ball somewhat and was fortunate to hit the shot over Tony Parker, who was playing good defense on me." Ginobili nearly brought San Antonio back, hitting a layup and a 3-pointer around to free throws by James Posey to cut the deficit to 83-82 with 6.5 seconds to play. After Brian Cardinal made 1-of-2 free throws on the other end, Shane Battier sealed the victory by stealing the ball from Ginobili in the waning seconds. "I was just trying to make something happen and I couldn't shake him," said Ginobili, who scored 16 points but committed seven of the Spurs' season-high 24 turnovers. "As soon as I saw him pause, I knew someone was coming off a screen," Battier said. "I did my best to get my hand in the passing lane and disrupt the timing of the play." San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich blamed the loss on his team's inability to hold on to the ball. "We were sloppy with the basketball," Popovich said. "That was too many to hand it over 24 times. It was our demise." Duncan echoed his coach's sentiments. "We shot ourselves in the foot tonight with turnovers," Duncan said. "We could have won this game. We gave them every opportunity we could to let them win the game because of turnovers. They played us aggressive tonight and that is why we lost." Miller scored 12 points and Watson added 11 for the Grizzlies, who snapped a four-game losing streak. "San Antonio is one of the better teams in the league and darn near invincible at home," Battier said. "(Coming) in here on a four-game losing streak, it seemed like we didn't have a prayer to win this game. To get one feels pretty good for us right now."
