Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- The way the New York Knicks were shooting, there was no way they were going to let this one slip away. Stephon Marbury scored 26 points and Tim Thomas added 25 as the hot-shooting Knicks pulled away for a 115-99 victory over the Golden State Warriors. New York won its sixth straight home game by shooting 62 percent (47-of-76) from the field. The Knicks led, 83-77, after three periods, but the Warriors took a 93-92 lead on a dunk by rookie Andris Biedrins with 7:25 to play. But New York poured it on to reach the 100-point mark for the 10th time in their last 12 games. The Knicks answered with a 21-1 run over the next five minutes to open a 113-94 lead with 2:03 remaining. New York's defensive effort also picked up in he fourth. The Knicks held the Warriors without a basket for the next 6:06 and gradually pulled away for just their eighth win by more than 10 points. "Our pick-and-roll defense really picked up," Knicks coach Herb Williams said. "The rotations were hard, guys were coming for guys. Once we started rotating hard and our rotations were good, our switches were good. We kept the ball in front and made them shoot over the top." "We just stepped up," Marbury said. "We really wanted to win this game. Defense is important. They weren't able to get easy baskets. When you get stops, it is easy to score." The Knicks took the lead for good at 94-93 on Marbury's layup with 6:53 remaining. They forced the Warriors to miss seven consecutive shots, sealing their first win over Golden State in five tries. Just over a minute later, the lead was up to 10 points as Kurt Thomas hit a mid-range jumper. In addition to Marbury's big night, the Knicks got a key lift from recent acquisition Maurice Taylor. He scored seven of his 15 points during the spurt as New York continued to pound the ball inside. "I had it going tonight," said Taylor, who logged 21 minutes and made 7-of-8 shots. "It is easy to post up, wait for the double team and throw it out." The Warriors shot a respectable 46 percent (36-of-78). But they missed seven straight shots down the stretch including three long 3-pointers and allowed the Knicks to shoot 62 percent. "We just didn't get the ball contained at all," Golden State coach Mike Montgomery said. "That was our goal, to contain the ball. We were giving up penetration almost at will. If they shoot 62 percent, you are not going to win the game." Mike Sweetney equaled his most productive game of his career, scoring 18 of his 19 points in the first quarter before encountering foul trouble in the second half. Marbury added a season-high 16 assists and combined with Thomas and Sweetney to shoot 27-of-40 from the floor. Jason Richardson scored 24 points and Troy Murphy added 23 for Golden State, which dropped to 2-2 on its eight-game road trip.
