Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- There was more late-game magic from Mike Bibby and more heartbreak for the Los Angeles Clippers at Arco Arena. Bibby buried a 20-footer with four-tenths of a second remaining - his second straight game-winner - giving the Sacramento Kings a 113-112 victory over the Clippers. The Kings have won eight straight meetings with the Clippers and 14 in a row at Arco Arena dating to November 7, 1997. Bibby rescued Sacramento, which appeared to have thrown away the game. "What can you say?" said Kings coach Rick Adelman, who notched his 697th win to move past Red Holzman into 15th on the all-time wins list. "It was a huge shot by Mike." Bibby scored 10 of his 28 points in the final five-plus minutes, including consecutive layups that pulled Sacramento into a 108-108 tie with a minute to go. After a jumper by Bobby Simmons, Bibby, who also had 12 assists, threw a shovel pass to a cutting Corliss Williamson, who scored and was fouled. His free throw gave the Kings their first lead of the fourth quarter at 111-110 with 36 seconds to play. Simmons missed a 3-pointer that was rebounded by Sacramento's Kenny Thomas, who overthrew an outlet pass to Peja Stojakovic that Rick Brunson tracked down. The point guard penetrated and found Simmons for a driving layup with 4.9 seconds remaining. "I guess Peja isn't fast enough," Thomas said. "I still shouldn't have thrown it like that. I'm just happy that Mike stepped up again. He bailed me out." On the next possession, Bibby took the inbounds pass above the arc, drove back rookie guard Quinton Ross with a hard dribble and pulled up for the game-winner. "I tried to give some hesitation, but I was going to shoot the jump shot the whole way," Bibby said. "It's not over till it's over, unfortunately," a dejected Simmons said. "Five seconds is enough time to win a game. Unfortunately (Bibby) got a great look and made it." In Wednesday's 85-82 win over Memphis, Bibby banked in a 27-footer at the buzzer. He said he has never made consecutive buzzer-beaters at any level. "It's unbelievable," Bibby said. "I just like the ball in my hands in those types of situations." Williamson scored 22 points off the bench and Mobley added 21 for the Kings, who have won three in a row. Corey Maggette had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Simmons scored 24 points for the Clippers, who have lost a league-leading 12 games by three points or less. "This is the toughest one," said Los Angeles forward Elton Brand, who has yet to win here as a Clipper. "We had it. We had a lead and made a big stop, but it was just a great shot." Brand picked up his fifth foul with 9:20 remaining and did not return. "Guys had it going and I had the five fouls," said Brand, who scored 10 points. "It seemed like every time I got in, (the referees) gave me another one." The game was close throughout with 23 lead changes and 13 ties. A 3-pointer by Cuttino Mobley gave the Kings their largest lead at 81-72 at the five-minute mark. But the Clippers closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to take an 88-85 advantage into the final period.
