Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- After getting blown out by the best team in the East, Michael Redd and the Milwaukee Bucks took out their frustrations against another one of the conference's elite. Redd scored 21 of his 32 points in the second half as the Bucks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 96-88 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. On Monday, Redd was held to 14 points - nearly nine below his season average - and Milwaukee shot a dismal 32 percent (25-of-78) in a 110-71 loss to the Miami Heat. "It was just a bad game," Redd said. "Just one of five to seven games a year that you're going to have. We bounced back tonight. We're professionals. We knew we were back at home tonight, so that helped, too." "The game in Miami was embarrassing," said guard Maurice Williams, who had 12 points and 10 assists. "We had a film session yesterday and got some things sorted out. We said we'd come with more effort tonight." The Bucks never trailed in this one, although the Cavaliers drew within 57-55 on Drew Gooden's follow shot with 5:28 left in the third period. Redd scored six consecutive points to ignite a 14-0 burst, which he capped with a jumper at the 1:19 mark to push Milwaukee's lead to 71-55. "We had a nice run going and (Redd) came back and made three shots in a row," said Cleveland guard Jeff McInnis, who had 12 points and six assists. All-Star LeBron James tried to rally Cleveland, cutting the deficit to 86-78 with a 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter. But Redd answered with a jumper to start a game-clinching 8-2 run that made it 94-80 with just under three minutes to play. Redd made just 3-of-10 shots in the first half but was 9-of-12 over the final two periods. "Michael Redd hit some great shots with someone right on him," Cleveland coach Paul Silas said. "I tried my triangle. I tried my zone, my man-to-man, but nothing seemed to work." James had 34 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Cavaliers (34-28), who dropped their eighth straight road game and fell one game behind Washington for fourth place in the East. "We've got to figure it out," James said of his team's road slide. "We're a different team on the road than at home. We're spoiled at home. We should be pressing because we haven't won a game on the road in almost two months, but we're still in (position) for home-court advantage. If we could get a win or two on the road, we'd easily be the fourth seed." "We will win another road game before this year is out," Silas said. "I don't know how many, but we will get one. We just have to keep winning our home games, though." Calvin Booth and Joe Smith scored four points apiece as the Bucks opened the second period with an 11-2 run for a 40-22 lead. The Cavaliers responded with a 20-2 spurt over the next six minutes to tie it, 42-42, before Milwaukee scored six of the next seven points to take a 48-43 edge at the break. Smith scored a season-high 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Bucks, who remained undefeated at home against Central Division opponents (7-0).
