Game Story

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Denver Nuggets must have thought it was still Wednesday. Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points to lead a balanced attack as the surging Nuggets rolled to a 115-96 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, their 10th win in 11 games. In Wednesday's 120-101 victory over Charlotte, the Nuggets established season highs for points and shooting percentage. They had 40 assists on 46 baskets in that contest. Anthony had a strong game against Charlotte and was just as good against the Clippers, making 6-of-9 shots in 30 minutes. He helped Denver set a new season high by shooting 57 percent (44-of-77) from the field. Denver collected 30 fast-break points, improving to 24-4 when scoring at least 18 on the break. "We want to get out and run because that's our game," said Anthony, who is 16-of-25 from the floor in his last two games. "Everybody knows we have people on our team who can put the ball in the hole so we try to get out in the open floor and get easy baskets." Marcus Camby collected 20 points and 17 rebounds for Denver, which never trailed and held a 60-57 halftime lead and gradually pulled away after intermission. "We're playing hard and when you play hard, good things happen," Camby said. "Our shots were falling and the defense was in the right place at the right time to grab the rebounds. But it was a total team effort. K-Mart (Kenyon Martin) came back, provided us a great spark and it's always good to see all 12 guys play." Denver's bench, which came into the game averaging 47.4 points over the last five games, contributed 45 and 14 assists in this one. "Our bench is probably one of the best benches in the league," said Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin, who returned after missing one game with a knee injury. "They've been playing great and they come in and extend the lead. No matter what the lead has been, they've come in and they've extended it and that's what they're supposed to do. They're doing a great job." Earl Boykins added 14 points and 10 assists for the Nuggets, who improved to 10-1 since the All-Star break and 17-5 since George Karl took over as coach. Denver (34-30) moved two games ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota for the Western Conference's final playoff spot. "We realize that they lost and we won, but we're just taking it game by game," Martin said. "We're just taking it game by game and trying to get better." "We've got the eight spot now and we're trying to get that seventh spot and all we have to do is keep winning games and see what happens," Anthony said. Denver trails Memphis by three games for the seventh seed in the West. Corey Maggette scored 22 of his 26 points in the first half for the Clippers, who fell 5 1/2 games behind the Nuggets. "It is very disappointing," Maggette said. "This is a game we could have won. They got too many easy buckets and Camby killed us tonight. They did what they had to do to get it done."
