Game StoryHOUSTON (Ticker) -- An unexpected source cooled off the Houston Rockets and kept the Boston Celtics rolling. Mark Blount matched his season high with 22 points as the Celtics extended their winning streak to six games with a 103-92 victory over the Rockets, who had their six-game run ended. Averaging 9.8 points this season, Blount had totaled just 18 in his last three outings. But it was a different story in this one as the reserve center made 11-of-16 shots, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots. "Mark was phenomenal," Boston coach Doc Rivers said. "He made shots, he blocked shots, he changed shots." "It was just my night," Blount said. "Our guys are playing well, being unselfish and going out there and doing our job." Houston's defense on Blount - or lack thereof - clearly disappointed Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy. "He's a very good shooter," Van Gundy said of Blount, who scored 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting in Boston's first meeting with Houston. "He shot well against us the last time, too. Obviously, we paid no attention to that." Blount was most effective in the third quarter, when the Celtics took control. After a free throw by Clarence Weatherspoon drew the Rockets within 56-45 one minute into the second half, Houston made just three baskets in the next nine minutes while Boston went on 20-10 spurt. "This was another test for us," said swingman Paul Pierce, who had 12 points and seven of the Celtics' 24 assists. "Houston was as hot as us or maybe even hotter, and we came in and got the win. Defensively, we really stepped up and our guys were sharing the ball. Everyone sacrificed things for the team." "We did a great job of executing our offense," Rivers said. "We had good ball movement, and we spread the floor. Ball movement and defense won us this game against a very good basketball team." Blount capped the burst with three consecutive baskets, making it 76-55 with just over two minutes to go. Tracy McGrady scored six of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, when the Rockets got no closer than nine. McGrady opened the game with a layup for the Rockets before the Celtics reeled off the next eight points and led thereafter. "We couldn't put the ball in the basket and defensively, we were out of synch," McGrady said. "We did a lot of things wrong tonight. You've got to give those guys credit. They were hot tonight. They did a good job working the pick-and-rolls, and they were making shots." Antoine Walker scored 18 points and Ricky Davis added 15 for Boston, which improved to 10-1 since acquiring Walker from Atlanta. "This is great," Walker said. "It's a lot of fun. Mark was pretty much our offense in the second half." "It was a great win," Davis said. "Houston has been playing really well lately, and so have we. It was a great game for us and a test of where our team is. We had it the whole game. We were making our shots and we're playing together as as team."
