Game Story

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Baron Davis was dialed in from long distance. Davis made seven 3-pointers and scored 33 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a surprising 110-100 victory over the Phoenix Suns. The Warriors, who beat Sacramento on Thursday, defeated the Suns for the first time in three meetings this season. Phoenix (48-16) fell 1 1/2 games behind San Antonio for first place in the Western Conference. Golden State broke open the contest with a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter, taking a 100-90 lead with 3:46 to play. Davis hit a layup with 4:47 to go and buried a 28-footer on the next possession. "We know going into the fourth quarter if the game is tight, we are going to win," Davis said. "We're playing good defense and guys are really starting to play well together and tough." Davis scored 13 first-quarter points and combined with Derek Fisher for a 12-3 run late in the period that gave the Warriors a 31-26 lead. Amare Stoudemire scored 15 of his 31 points in the third period to put the Phoenix ahead, 83-82. But the All-Star center was scoreless in the final period. "I think we got careless," Stoudemire said. "We are depending on our offense to outshoot guys. I wanted to score in the fourth, but I just couldn't get the ball." Jason Richardson scored 19 points grabbed 10 rebounds and Fisher added 19 points for Golden State, which won for just the third time in 20 meetings at Phoenix. "We've played better since we've made the trades and the guys have gotten comfortable with each other," Warriors Coach Mike Montgomery said. "Baron has helped us. He is the kind of (player) who controls the game. He talks and guys have confidence in him." Shawn Marion had 27 points and 17 rebounds and Joe Johnson scored 15 points for the Suns, who were playing their first game in four days and were outrebounded, 51-41. "It comes down to pretty simple things," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "The Warriors did what they were supposed to do. A lot of times it is not a complicated game. They made all the big shots and we didn't make any." The Warriors improved to 8-6 since acquiring Davis and won season high-tying second straight road game. "Our focus has to be on the future where we are not in a position to make the playoffs," Fisher said. "Next year is what it's all about and it has given us the ability to go out and play loose and show us what we are all about."
