Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Rashard Lewis and the Seattle SuperSonics did not miss a beat in the absence of Ray Allen. Lewis matched a career high with seven 3-pointers and scored 29 points as the SuperSonics posted their fifth victory in six games, a 92-84 triumph over the Milwaukee Bucks. Seattle's leading scorer at 23.9 points per game, Allen sprained his right ankle in the first quarter of Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Lakers and did not play against his former team in this one. But Lewis and Luke Ridnour, who scored a career-high 21 points, more than compensated for his absence. "I thought Luke busted the game open for us," said Lewis, who had four of the Sonics' nine steals. "They were double-teaming me on the post every time I caught the ball and he was the one hitting all the open jump shots, and I think he opened it up for everybody." In addition to Allen, forwards Danny Fortson (left ankle) and Vladimir Radmanovic (right leg) also were unavailable. Radmanovic, the team's third-leading scorer, is on the injured list and may miss the rest of the regular season. "With Ray being out and with Vlade being out, Rashard is going to see more double-teams," Seattle coach Nate McMillan. "Teams are going to leave Luke and some of our other guys open. All we are going to have to do is swing the ball and shoot the ball." Lewis did most of his damage in the first three quarters, when he scored 24 to give the Sonics a 68-63 lead entering the final period. "He is definitely an All-Star player," former Sonic Desmond Mason said. "He has worked on every aspect of his game. I think the main thing is that he's grown to be more mature." Seattle never trailed in the fourth, but Milwaukee did draw within 81-79 on a pair of free throws by Calvin Booth with 3:23 remaining. Lewis answered with his seventh 3-pointer one minute later to push the lead back to five, and the Bucks never got closer than four thereafter. It is the third time Lewis has made seven shots from the arc this season. The Sonics made 46 percent (10-of-22) of their 3-pointers, while the Bucks were just 2-of-14 from the arc. "Threes were the game," Milwaukee coach Terry Porter said. "That was the difference, really." Ridnour, who hit four free throws down the stretch to seal the victory, also had nine of the Sonics' 24 assists on 34 baskets. Mason scored 21 points and Michael Redd added 22 for the Bucks, who have lost six straight games on the road. "We had an opportunity right down the stretch," said Mason, who was part of the deal that sent Allen to Seattle. "We had some shots that were pretty close and we just couldn't get them to go." With the win, the Sonics avenged a 99-73 loss to the Bucks last month in which they set a season low in points and shot a franchise-worst 29 percent (25-of-85). "We felt like we owed them one," Lewis said. "The way they beat us in Milwaukee, they just kind of laid us on their lap and spanked us. We knew coming into the game tonight that even though we were missing Ray Allen, we still wanted to get this win."
