Game StoryOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- While the Golden State Warriors lost their cool, Dirk Nowitzki and Keith Van Horn kept theirs and shot the Dallas Mavericks to a fourth straight win. Nowitzki scored 20 of his 29 points in the first half and Van Horn added 24 points as the Mavericks rolled to a 109-97 victory over the Warriors. The tandem kept Dallas in control all night, combining to shoot 17-of-25 (68 percent) and making 4-of-6 3-pointers. "I try not to run a play for them every time because they really play well," Mavericks coach Avery Johnson said. "Keith stepped up big for us. That's what we brought him here for and more than him scoring points tonight, he is really one of our better pick-and-roll defenders. He's been a real nice addition to our basketball team." For the most part, Nowitzki and Van Horn managed to avoid the bulk of Golden State's meltdown, which included the ejection of Mike Dunleavy Jr., a technical foul on coach Mike Montgomery and a brief shoving match in front of Dallas' bench near the end. Nowitzki added 10 rebounds to his effort while Van Horn provided his finest outing since joining the club on February 24. He scored nine points and Nowitzki five in a 24-10 run bridging the final two quarters that left Dallas with a 91-72 lead with just under 10 minutes left. "I felt defensively and rebounding-wise, I played a little bit better," Van Horn said. "But it was a solid game and we needed this win. We need to get this road trip off to a good start." The Mavericks, who moved within 4 1/2 games of the San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest Division, play five of their next six on the road. The Warriors held a three-point edge after one period but gradually fell apart, culminating in a wild third quarter that saw Dunleavy storm off the court after his first career ejection and toss his jersey into the crowd. He had been upset with a fourth foul call and picked up two technicals in a matter of seconds. Overall, there were six technical fouls called in the third quarter alone. Dunleavy would not address the media after the game. "You never know what will happen when refs get under a guy's skin," said Warriors guard Jason Richardson, who was involved in the pushing toward the end of the game. "It was one of those nights where a lot of technicals were given out. It showed us that he's got a lot of enthusiasm. He doesn't show that often, but it's good to see that from Mike." Golden State was unable to gain any inspiration from the incidents, instead seeing Dallas gradually pull away. "I just tried to stay focused and not get so caught up in all the stuff that was going on," Van Horn said. "It was a crazy game and I thought the game could have been controlled a little bit better, but that stuff happens in competition so I just tried to stay focused, go out there and do my job." Baron Davis and Mickael Pietrus scored 22 points apiece for Golden State, which failed to record its second four-game winning streak this season. "It was all in good fun," Davis said in regard to the high number of fouls assessed. "We needed a spark, I got a tech, came back and cut it to six (points). They just had the energy. They beat us to the punch tonight on all our loose balls. We had an opportunity of turning the tables and they come up with an offensive rebound and a putback or a big 3-pointer and kept us at bay, and that's what a good playoff team does." The Warriors struggled to mount any sort of late comeback by making just 2-of-23 3-pointers. Davis was 1-of-9 from long range. "It was a tough night for us for shooting," said Richardson, who was 1-of-6 from 3-point range and scored 11 points. "We missed a lot of opportunities with shots and layups, but when you're playing a team like Dallas, you've got to take advantage of that, you've got to knock those shots down."
