Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Chris Bosh wrapped up a productive weekend and helped keep alive the postseason hopes of the Toronto Raptors. Bosh scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Raptors opened a five-game road trip with a 109-104 victory over the lowly Atlanta Hawks. In beating the Hawks for the 11th time in 14 meetings, the Raptors (29-40) moved within 5 1/2 games of the Philadelphia 76ers for the final Eastern Conference playoff berth with 13 to play. "We're trying to finish the season with some private goals to shoot for," Raptors forward Jalen Rose said. "Obviously, the playoffs (are) the No. 1 (goal). But you still have to go out there and play and improve." Tony Delk came off the bench to score 14 first-half points, including consecutive 3-pointers early in the second quarter, and the Hawks shot 60 percent (24-of-40) from the floor to take a 59-53 halftime lead. But the Hawks, who have surrendered a second-half advantage at home in their last four contests, let Toronto back in the game in the third period. "We had a big lead in the second quarter and we just got complacent," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "We took some ill-advised shots. Defensively, we were trading buckets. This is not a team you can trade buckets with." Bosh, who had 24 points and 22 rebounds in Friday's loss at Philadelphia, led five scorers in double figures. Playing in front of his Georgia Tech coach, Paul Hewitt, Bosh tallied 10 in the third quarter and capped a 12-3 run with a running jumper that put Toronto on top, 71-68, with 4:37 left. "I'm just glad we won," Bosh said. "I had a good game last night, but it didn't pay off because we didn't win. To have a good game and win at the same time, it's a double bonus." "Bosh was a tough stop all night," Hawks guard Tyronn Lue said. "He was very creative in the paint." The teams traded the lead three times in the fourth quarter before Toronto closed with a 12-5 spurt. Morris Peterson buried a 3-pointer with 3:43 remaining, giving the Raptors the lead for good, 100-99. "I think that was a big shot," Peterson said. "I got the ball in the corner and knocked it down. It came down to a couple of plays and I thought that play really turned the game around." Also helping Toronto's cause was Atlanta's inability to make a shot down the stretch. The Hawks were held to two baskets in the final four minutes. "We were down two points with a minute to go," Atlanta forward Al Harrington said. "We couldn't get a bucket. For the most part, we played the right way. But we didn't make any shots. It's that simple. We gave ourselves a chance to win." Rose scored 26 points, Peterson added 14 and Rafer Alston 12 for Toronto, which avenged a 116-112 home overtime loss to Atlanta on March 11. Delk scored 21 points, rookies Josh Smith and Josh Childress added 19 apiece and Childress grabbed 10 rebounds for the Hawks (11-58), who have lost eight in a row and eight straight at home.
