Game StoryORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Indiana Pacers could be on their way to making things more difficult for themselves in the postseason. The Pacers failed in their bid to clinch at least the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs as Steve Francis scored 24 points to lead the Orlando Magic to a 92-88 victory. Needing one win to clinch at least the sixth spot, Indiana (43-38) lost its third straight game and had its lead over seventh-place Philadelphia reduced to one game with only Wednesday's home finale against Chicago remaining. Philadelphia owns the tiebreaker over Indiana. If the Pacers fall to seventh, they would face defending NBA champion Detroit in the first round. A sixth-place finish for the Pacers would mean a matchup with Boston, which they beat three of four times. "I'm not as concerned with who we play cause either way we've got to go into someone else's building," said Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal, who had 16 points and eight rebounds in his second game since returning from a shoulder injury. "It's more about how we're playing. It's not good going into a playoff losing four straight games. After trailing virtually the entire way, the Pacers took an 84-83 lead with 3:59 remaining on Fred Jones' long jumper. But Tony Battie scored 19 seconds later to give Orlando back the lead for good. Battie, who had 12 points and nine rebounds, split two free throws with 42 seconds left for an 88-86 lead. Jones, who scored 19 points, missed on a drive to the basket and Francis drilled a jumper with 10 seconds to go to seal things. DeShawn Stevenson added 18 points and rookie Dwight Howard 17 and nine rebounds for Orlando, which snapped a seven-game losing streak by playing one of its more inspired games over the last month. "We felt we were a better team than our record and it really showed the spirit and camaraderie that these guys have for each other to step up and play that hard in game like this," Magic interim coach Chris Jent said. A layup by Brandon Hunter with 3:20 left in the third quarter gave the Magic their biggest lead at 73-62. But Eddie Gill, James Jones and Austin Croshere made 3-pointers as the Pacers closed the period on a 9-2 surge to pull within 75-71. "The game shouldn't have even come down to that," said Pacers guard Reggie Miller, missed all five of his shots in the second half. "If we play our brand of basketball, we shouldn't have to worry about it going down to the end. They came out with more energy and we didn't match it. This should've been a playoff atmosphere game for us." James Jones added 11 points off the bench for the Pacers, who shot just 41 percent (31-of-75) and held a 41-39 rebounding edge. Orlando shot 48 percent (34-of-71).
