Game StoryCHICAGO (Ticker) -- Rookie Ben Gordon and the Chicago Bulls are having a season to remember. Former Bull Jamal Crawford had a final 14 seconds to forget. Gordon nailed a go-ahead jump shot with 5.8 seconds left and Crawford missed a jumper at the buzzer as the Bulls edged the New York Knicks, 92-91, to clinch home-court advantage in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Kirk Hinrich matched a career high with 34 points to pace the Bulls (47-34), who secured home-court advantage because fifth-place Washington (45-36) lost earlier in the evening at New Jersey. "That is great," said Bulls coach Scott Skiles, whose team started 0-9. "I am very proud of the guys. Considering everything we went through, it is a great accomplishment. ... Our guys should be very proud." "Yeah, (we're proud)," Hinrich said. "But we have to stay hungry - we can't be satisfied just making the playoffs." New York took a 91-90 edge on a jumper by Crawford with 47 seconds left. Gordon, who scored 16 points, missed a 3-pointer, grabbed his own rebound but stepped on the sideline with 35 seconds remaining. Crawford missed a 3-pointer and the Bulls grabbed the rebound and called timeout with 13.7 seconds to play. After Hinrich lobbed an inbounds pass to Tyson Chandler, the 7-footer was called for an offensive foul for turning into New York rookie Trevor Ariza with 12.3 seconds left. Crawford was fouled with 11.6 to play but missed both free throws. "It was unbelievable to me," Crawford said. "I'm a pretty good free-throw shooter and want to be in the position I was in. I'm not sure what happened. I asked my teammates if I muscled them. I've been in this position before and made them. I like to come through for my team." Following a timeout, the Bulls worked the ball to Gordon, who swished a step-back jumper over Jermaine Jackson from just beyond the left elbow. "We just wanted to bring him to the top, clear it out for him and let him go," Skiles said. "He hit a big shot." "The good thing was that at any time Kirk or I can hit that shot, so we had them guessing," Gordon said. "I was able to shake free and get open." After Crawford missed his jumper just before the buzzer, the United Center crowd cheered lustily. "I thought Jamal got some good looks at the end," Knicks coach Herb Williams said. "Some of them went down, others didn't. The last shot at the end, he had a good look but it was off a little left." Crawford finished with 24 points for the Knicks (33-48), who have lost 12 of their last 15 games and conclude their season vs. Washington on Wednesday. Knicks guard Stephon Marbury scored 15 points but sat out most of the fourth quarter. "Steph's knee got stiff," Williams said. "I didn't want to take a chance at this stage of the season. I put him in for free throws at the end. I wanted to have my best shooters on the court at the same time." "I was a little tight at the end but there's nothing wrong with me knee," Marbury said. "I have a bad bunion, but it's on my left foot. It was hurting bad. Anytime I'm not playing, the guys on the court can play more efficient. Yes, I will play tomorrow."
